good motor for hpi blitz?

i have been using the vxl motor from my rustler, but it has a nice sized dent from jumping my rustler 25ft+ into the air. the plastic motor mount flexed and the motor hit the skidplate thing pretty hard, leaving a nasty dent. ever since then, the motor likes to run hot. it would never go above 130F, but it will easily get up to 180F in 7-10 minutes now.

i am looking for a motor that will tolerate pretty high gearing on 2 and 3s. i like medusa motors, but they are becoming even more rare now and even if i could find one, i can't find any 32p gears that will fit the blitz, so i need a motor with a 3.17mm shaft.

i saw someone using a novak ballistic 8.5t in a slash geared conservatively (35-40mph) and was only temping at 90F after 10 minutes.

any suggestions?

I used a Trinity Duo 17.5 in a Slash geared for 45mph on 4s Lipo and it was fine.

Failing that might I suggest another VXL? Really if you want to stay 2-3s Lipo and not go sensored, besides the Medusa motors (good luck finding), they're the best choice.

I run a Neu 1506 in my Rustler and IMO it's the perfect motor for any 1/10th 2wd. You can have them ordered with a 1/8th inch shaft and they are beastly motors. I was pushing 60+ out of mine on 3s and ran out of batteries after over an hour of speed runs up and down the street and (with FLM transmission case) my motor temp was 140 degrees in 85ish degree weather. I have the 1Y (5500KV) so it has the spunky, rev-happy driving characteristics of a Castle motor like the 5700 but it will out-torque the VXL any day. I got mine brand new off eBay for $105 shipped, keep an eye out and you should be able to find some good deals, or just swing the money for a real one.

A VXL is the best choice as far as value for money, I bought 3 of them on eBay (again, brand new) for $60 each but after running that Neu I will never put a VXL in my Rustler, nothing holds a candle to that motor.
