My New Computer Specs ~ Need Some Help As Well -_- Again..
 

Well, my dad wanted me to pass my computer on to my mom, and gave me a new combo from Fry's...

Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 620 - 2.6GHz
Motherboard - Biostar A770E3
Videocard - Nvidia GeForce GTS 250
Memory - Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) 1333Mhz

Now heres the question, the memory says i5 & i7, and since it has been freezing me out, and BSODing me, I'm wondering if it really is the memory specs, or if it's just defective sticks.

Now you may be asking why I bought $110 memory, it's because it was on a rebate sale, $110 - $40 MIR = about 70 bucks...

Download memtest86 and test your memory - that will tell you if it's bad or not. http://www.memtest86.com/ Just burn the cd & run it. It's pretty self explanatory.

I had run that the other night, but didn't know how to read the blue page.
Or do I let it sit? It pretty much stayed on a blinking underscore for about 5 minutes, should I have let it keep going?

Of course!

memtest86 will give you a couple options about using 1 cpu or 2 (use 1), and then test your ram. Let it sit there till it doesn't look like it's doing anything (it should run a bunch of tests, showing progress in the top right). It will either stop and say ERROR somehwhere on the screen, or say everything completed to 100% (with no error indication)

i dont think it would be the mem causing the problem. what are the PSU specs? also did the heatsink seat right on the cpu? you may also wanna look around and see if anyone has had problems with that board, i never have cared for biostar.

Decided to go run to Fry's and get the mem exchanged.
Called ahead, put a set on hold under my name, got there, and they said they had just sold the last set, the one that was under my name.

I wasn't exactly happy.
Came back home with the bad mem, and decided I would run the memtest again, as I clicked the button, nothing.

Strange, clicked it again (button to power up), nothing, nada. Not even a fan moves.

So I guess this means my power supply just went out, I isolated everything, took everything out, mobo, etc, put it on a couple antistatic bags on top of my case, with only power cord, tried powering it up, nada.

My dad doesn't think it's PSU, but I pretty much just proved it is, unless the mobo isn't taking power.

Which I then took my old E8500 combo, tried to power it up, nothing,.
I redid all the front panel pins, etc.

Hoping to pick up a higher end power supply later today, but my dad will probably be getting another budget case for my old E8500 (for my mom), as it won't have anything that will powerhog the PSU, and maybe, just maybe, a new, better, name branded, PSU for me. yippee.

Not exactly the best one I could've gotten, but it was a great price for a 600W.

I memtested both sticks, and they both came out clean.
The first time I had both in, it BSOD'd three times, took one out, tested fine, took it out, put second one in, tested fine. Put both back in, and it's working perfectly.
I am just puzzled, I guess the PSU just couldn't handle two DDR3 sticks?

Looks like this may be my new computer, I was thinking about returning it, and waiting for a cheap Intel Quad, but now that it's working, and working stable, I'm gonna adapt some stuff into it, see if I like it.

I still got about a week and a half left to see if I wanna return it.

sounds like the rail that handels the memory is not up to the task, or it could be a board problem as well.

But, as I was powering my computer on this morning, it froze up two times at the Windows 7 logo, that pulses....

Not sure if that's the memory, if it's just something else.

I'll find out after I exchange the memory on the 29th... Hopefully

Memtest will tell you if the memory is the problem!

Well, my computer just froze up, and BSOD'd me, took a stick out, and voila, works perfectly.
Must be a stick of RAM..

It sounds like you have a compatability problem with your memory. That is what happens when you try to go budgit on memory. One thing that I have learned is that if you really want to build a good computer you need to invest for the best and get it over with. The problems it will save you in the long run are worth it. Never go for cheap memory.

Corsair is hardly "Budget" memory. Some mobo's and their chipsets, especially the more non familiar brand name ones like Biostar are pickier about memory then others. You get what you pay for
