E-truggy or conversion
 

looking at truggy's... making the 1/8th scale jump, currently running a converted revo.
mainly, am i missing something or is the rc8t-e the only truggy that is made specific for electric that is worth a damn, or should i just convert a nitro. i've done some searches here and haven't found this direct question in a recent post, w/ newer models. also when i want to bash can't i just throw on some larger tires and get around the same clearance as a 1/10th MT. i already have a mmm and would need a new motor as i only have a 36-60-2000 medusa.
budget around 600 not including tx/rx, mmm, battery and servo. so roller and motor.

to be honest iv'e never seen a truggy live, everyone here seems to say more reliable and easier to wrench on. so I'm sold

No there aren't a lot of electric truggies right now, mostly electric buggies. You'd have to get one and convert. You can get an 8ightT, MXB5T and some others fairly cheap and convert them for not too much more.

All the truggies use a 3.7" LPR wheel/tire combo with a 17mm hub. However, those really don't come in all that great of treads for bashing. Nonetheless, all 3.2", and Pro-Line 40", wheels/tires (i.e. MT/Maxx size) all work directly. Newer truggies have no offset wheels, older truggies such as the 8ightT and MXB5T use 1/2" wheels. I've run currently 3.2" badlands with maximizer beadlocks zero offset on my RC8T when in bashing mode (see my Trophy Baja thread for some pics). I've also run 40 seris with Big Joes on it too with some gearing down.

As far as ground clearance, all the truggies have a flat bottom so they don't have the central ground clearance of the "MT". However at the axels, the ground clearance is just as good. Ground clearance between my RC8Te and Savage X at the axles is identical when measured with the same wheel/tire combo.

As for being more reliable, etc. Depends on who you talk to. Ability to be wrenched on, I suppose might be a bit easier just due to the flat chassis.

the rc8te is the only direct electric truggy i can find, though it looks like a converted rc8t, not made from the ground up to be electric. damn i have some deciding to do.
anyone have any pros cons to buying a rc8te or rc8t or other truggy and convert. is there anything on the horizon that i should wait for?

dont buy the rc8te kit it isnt worth a damn, tiny 3mm aluminum tower, plastic shocks, and the AE conversion kit it comes with sucks. You want the Rc8t FT it comes with the goos shocks and titainium turnbuckles and links, carbon fiber towers and all the other little things that really make it a nice truck.

so get the Rc8t FT and buy the Rc-Monster chassis kit, then turn around and sell everything out of the kit you dont use (all nitro related) and recoup the money for the Rc-m kit and then buy your self a motor.

Or you can look a mugen Mbx6t and mike has a nice kit for it.

Or you can look for a used 09 spec Xray xt8 and buy mike new kit for it.

you will be extremely pleased with any of those setups.

ahh thats why its so much cheaper than a nitro roller, i was unaware, thank you for breaking it down.

..now looking at used nitro's to convert, are there different versions of the rc8t? if so how can you tell.

Yes, there are different versions of the RC8T. And yes the RC8Te is a conversion not a ground-up electrc.

Rootar is right about it. Although I did use the Associated conversion kit, but ended up using the rc-monster RC8T motor mount, which is great (just wish my emails would get answered). If I did it again I'd just go with the rc-monster conversion kit.

ok, so i will go with the rc8t ft w/ mikes conversion, plus i have lhs support.
anyone see any good deals on them let me know, also do many people buy from other sites like rctech? any other good ones, or bad that i should stay away from?

Converting a nitro to electric is very simple...I have done 6 in total

All you really need is a motor mount which you can buy here...Mike sells many different ones.

A battery tray which Mike sells here in many different sizes...or he will make you a custom tray to your desired specs....I have 5 custom trays from Mike. Drill a few holes in chassis to mount batt tray....done

convert to a single servo for steering and that is pretty much it

You can pick up used good rollers for around $ 200- w/spares, add motor mount and batt tray for another $ 90-, a good used radio system for another $ 125- or so, 1515 ccneu for another $ 150- and you should be in good shape.

Good truggy rollers to look for

1. mugen mbx6T or the older mbx5T
2. X-ray 8T-08 spec or 09 spec - 08 spec will be cheaper
3. Losi 2.0

Mike is also working on full conversion kits for some of the truggies as well..look in the RCM store under RCMonster parts

i have my rc8t ive been thinking about selling, Im not giving it away by any means because i just rebuilt the entire truck and everything that moves is brandnew and in perfect condition except the chassis which has one race season on it. This truck is a proven winner on the track but im sure youd be very happy with it playing too.

IMO, the ones I listed are more durable. I have a mbx5t and it is built like a tank
