MMM & Spektrum users, I require your council..

Will be placing the order for my new DX6i in a couple days, but I would be eternally greatful if any MMM and Speky users could chime in with any useful advice for me. I appreciate the handset I'll have is a tad bit different to the pistol grip ones you guys use, but Im talking mainly about things like:

EPA settings on the throttle channel
Arming time on the MMM
Fail safe modes
Operation modes, regards signal types?
Throttle channel reversing if required
Binding issues/ any known dodgy rx models

Anything at all I should know about to make calibrating & programming the radio to the esc easier- I will pick up a glitchbuster cap since my servo is a bit of a monster.

I have done a fair bit of reading and it seems the best rx ( for range ) is the older AR500 model, though the set I will be buying comes with the AR6200; I understand this is a parkflyer rx so not full range, but then again what kinda range does it have? 300 yard radius say would be more than fine for me, though I'll need another rx for use in the Gmaxx regardless so its no biggie.

Thankyou in advance for any hints and tips you kind/ perverse people can provide :mdr:

I think I have my EPA set somewhere between 110 and 125 (whatever max is).
Yes, you will likely have to fiddle with the arming time. I had to adjust mine slightly.
Throttle channel reversing is almost a hit or miss depending on how you wired your motor, so its likely you'll have to do that.
Binding can be difficulat at times. Sometimes mine take right off the bat, other times its 4 or 5 tries.

Other items you asked about - I dont know for sure how I have them set.

if u run reverse like i do make sure you set the failsafe to neutral and not brake. as it likes to find reverse and keep going, into a creek in reverse in my case, that was a while ago but i learned that the hard way

Thankyou guys, much appreciated.

Gotta say though, Im kinda disappointed- there have got to be more than 2 users of the MMM esc & Spetrum radios? :eyes:

Someone has an issue with their shitbox360 ( like there arent a billion help threads or tutorials to fix it online already :sarcastic: ) and we get a 3 page thread, but I ( whom rarely asks for help, yet spends countless hours helping others ) have a fairly simple question to ask and get hardly any help at all; I thought this was an r/c forum? :rules::whip:

why, what's wrong with your x-box? I'd be glad to help you out...

The only probs I ever had with Spektrum and M.M.M. was a couple failed bindings but in went thru after another attempt.

I think you'll have zero problems Neil !

suicideneil 01.31.2010 06:37 PM

I can live with that- once its bound, its bound as such. :)

JoFreak 01.31.2010 06:55 PM

What are all the MMM + Spektrum users like me supposed to say?
Bound my DX3R with the 2 SR3100 which are connected to MMMs and I have had zero problems. No binding issues, no arming time issues, nothing. It just works:yes:

I have no idea how this information could be of help to you, but you asked for it:lol:

magman 01.31.2010 07:25 PM

Neil, I have my arming time set for 1.5 sec.... For some reason, 1 sec. was not enough. On 3 of my 4 rx, it took 4-6 times to bind..but once it did, no problems. Range has been excellent as well.

I also have all my epa on 125% Love the simplicity of the radio..my old Futaba came w/a novel for instructions which were not user friendly.

BP-Revo 01.31.2010 07:59 PM

Easiest way is to bind the Spektrum unit with a battery or BEC. Test it with a servo to make sure it's working.

Set your EPA's to max and calibrate it to the MMM.

The only thing is why are you using a DX6 and not a DX3 or DX3R? Isn't a DX6 a plane controller?

suicideneil 01.31.2010 08:16 PM

I want my truck to fly....

I like having lots of knobs (dont even bother....) and dials to play with, plus stick radios are my favourite flavour- if Spektrum or someplace else made a 2/3 channel stick radio with all the different adjustments that the normal, high-end pistol radios have I'd be a very happy man, but the 6i will be a kick ass radio to play with. I might even do 4ws for shits & giggles, along with lights/ horn/ anti-tourist devices

suicideneil 01.31.2010 08:24 PM

JoFreak- thats fine. If there arent any issues to worry about, then all the better.

Magman- cheers. I've heard people discuss the arming time issue with various digital radios, just didnt apply to me until now- will raise mine to 1.5s via castlelink before I attempt to do anything clever with it.

BP-Revo- sounds like a good idea ( re: battery and rx ). I will be able to set my steering epa to make sure it doesnt bind at full throw that way too.

Thankyou very much guys, I really do appreciate the help and advice.

Arct1k 01.31.2010 09:45 PM

It works fine - I run a DX6 for rock crawling with FXR's, MM and Holmes XLs - Never had an issue - just do the normal calibration routine...

suicideneil 01.31.2010 10:40 PM

Sweet, cheers Art1k.

Just bought everything I'll need, see my thread for details/ witty remarks.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in, much appreciated
