Just bought micro t. What motors, lipos, etc available?
Just bought a micro t from ebay. Haven't gotten it yet, but I wanna go ahead and find out what upgrades are available fot it. The xceleron BL system for 50 dollars is tempting to me, but I feel like that would probably be stooooopid fast on such a small truck.
Is there a decent brushed motor which would speed it up some? Does the stock esc have an lvc? I see a lot of lipo batteries offered for it. Would a standard 2s lipo, such as the one for my mini e-revo fit it? I'm imagining not, and, if so, do you have to order lipos for it only from losi? Are the threaded axleshafts a good upgrade? I feel like with it being so light it's probably fairly durable. Does it have any problems with stripping any gears? |
Upgrading to brushless is more than the $50 for the motor and esc, you also need to add a servo and rx. The stock brushed esc has the rx built in and the servo isn't compatible with a standard rx. All said and done it's about $100 if you buy everything new, I'm sure there are cheaper places to get parts, thats the price from my lhs. As far as durability, they aren't to bad when stock. They are light and don't carry much momentum so things don't break often. I had the micro desert truck and never upgraded anything, never broke anything either. Now the lipos, I beleive the stock losi lipos for these have a lvc built into the battery but I'm not sure, I know the stock esc doesn't have one though.

Lipos availible at True-RC and are cheap !
Try lipos w/stcok brush motor first, might be fast enough for you. If you go BL is a PITA because of the RX and servo and almost to fast to control well. |
When I had my Micro-T I went all out on it and did the Xcelorin brushless, SR3500 micro receiver, lipos, etc. It was super fast, but my only warning is be cautious about throwing that much money into a novelty RC. I found that the fun wore off really quick. The resale value for minis and micros is pretty poor also. Not trying to rain on your parade, just a heads up. If anything get the electronic upgrades, but don't spend any money on alloy parts. Best things to get would be bearings and threaded axles too.
You will need to shim the diff with some tiny o-rings or washers if you go brushless. These are the lipos I used: http://hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store...idProduct=9027 HobbyCity also has a few small brushless inrunners that look about the same size as the Losi ones, but much cheaper. There was another micro brushless motor I used that was better than the Losi ones, I found it on a heli website, I'll see if I can track it down again. |

Keep it brushed and chuck in a 2s lipo, it'll be plenty quick ! |
A 2s 460mah rhino lipo from hobbycity fits with a little nodding. I'll post a link to a post on a different machine..

hey Metallover
did you find that link? i'm also interested... thanks :) |
Thanks guys! I feel like brushed is how I want to keep it. Why are the threaded axles such a good upgrade? How about shocks and stuff? I'm figuring not really necessary on such a small truck, but figured I'd ask.
I believe I've read before there's a ball bearing brushed motor that's available for it that ups the speed a bit, am I wrong in that? If so is there one available that works with the stock esc, and does it need to be rebuilt ever-so-often? I'm not too crazy on replacing brushes and working on coms and stuff on brushed motors. I feel like 20 mph would be more than enough on a micro t, and probably a tad too much :) I'm definitely not gonna consider any aluminum parts, I don't really run aluminum on anything. Costs a lot, is heavier than plastic or rpm, and bends. Just don't like it. How do you use the lipos from hobbycity if the stock esc does not have an lvc built in? I would love to add one of the 3 dollar batteries next time I order lipos for my merv or stampede, but it would be pointless without some sort of lvc wouldn't it? |

Here's that post I was talking about
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=9474636 Check out the two links in the post. You may also want to consider an aluminum gearbox if you ever strip something. It is the first thing you should do to beef up the transmission. |
everything you could want for a anything <1/10, at a premium price:neutral:....

Yeah, I had a motor wire come loose, so I removed a wheel to make it easier to solder back, and it was aggravating to get back on, to say the least. I think the truck is plenty fast like it is. I'm having trouble with the steering freezing up. It seems to only do it if I'm turning full lock. It just freezes there, and won't turn. Most of the times it has done it I've been able to turn the wheels back and forth by hand repeatedly several times and it would begin to work again. I've also been able to get the steering to come back by dropping it from about 6 inches high. What does this sound like, a steering servo?
Also, on the lipo, from my experience, I hit the voltage limiter before I ever begin to loose any performance, so if I drive it till it slows down, isn't it already too low? I know the lipos are cheap, but the shipping isn't, so I'd like to still make them las as long as I can. Are there any better tires/shocks for the micro t? The stock tires don't grip well and the shocks are a joke lol. |
Check all connections for the servo prob, if you find nothing call Horizon Hobby. I had a prob with reception with mine and they sent me a whole new ESC/RX w/crystals. Probably a reman, but hey, it was free and worked great.
This place is a excellent store w/FAST shipping and great prices. Get the CC ready !!!! http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_...cat_name=MICRO T . BAJA, DT&action=list |
It's got to be a bad connection or something somewhere, or the servo itself. What's happening, I believe, is the steering servo loses power sometimes, and is stuck where it is until I jar whatever connection is broken back to working, where it returns to center. Problem is I don't have any screwdrivers small enough to start taking it apart so I can see if there's a wire that's not connected securely. If that's not it, I guess I'll purchase a steering servo for it. Then I guess it'd be just buy new electronics, hope that stuff doesn't cost much, or I could've just bought a new one.
I think I've already stripped the gearbox also. But again, I can't take it apart so I can get in and see if something's stripped, or maybe something like a setcrew came loose on a gear? Don't know what the gearbox is like on this thing yet. Any other opinions on the lipo without lvc? If I run it until it begins to slow down, isnt' the lipo likely already low enough to possibly be damaged? |
