My RCM RC8T

Well I sold my Mugen and I'm moving onto a RC8T. I wanted something newer and with more steering and aggressive running that matches my driving style. I've always wanted a RC8T, wanted a RCM RC8T even more.

I sent in my Tekin RX8 for repair last week, hopefully I get it back soon or I might borrow another ESC for the time being. I have an old 9920 that needs a little repair, I might try to rig that up. Here's the specs:

RCM chassis kit
FT RC8T kit
Tekin RX8/T8 1700kv combo
4s Neu Energy XP 25C 5000mah practice packs
4s Neu Energy EP 30C 4100mah long main packs
4s Neu Energy EP 30C 3300mah short main packs
Holeshots and City Blocks depending on track
DE Racing skids
Hitec 5955 servo
the usual truggy stuff

I don't have the truggy here yet, it's on it's way. Got a good deal on it too! The RCM kit should be here soon. It's not Mike's newest version, but I don't see that being a problem. Got the batts in the mail today so I just need to find a speedo. Going for a red/black or blue/black scheme here, not sure which one. I might have to de-anodize the Tekin motor if I go blue.

Well I can tell you that you should be pretty happy! I have a FT RC8T with RC-M chassis kit and love it. Raced it all last summer and all that I broke was the rod end on the rear chassis brace and bent the brace, made a quad out of a double double! Very durable truck that impressed even the diehard nitro guys. Truck handles great, turns great, very stable, flies straight, and was easy to correct the attitude in the air when it needed it.

Not sure of the specs on your servo but I would guess it's not as powerful as the 7955 so I'm not sure how well that will do for you. The 7955 may be overkill but it's nice to know I have extra strength there and the servo shouldn't have to work as hard, therefor last longer.

My other concern is your batteries. Neu batteries are excellent and I just ordered another for myself. However, running three different weight batteries is gonna effect your handling, the truck could handle very differently with each pack. Also the 3300mah in particular may not hold up to the current draw. I would recomend using the 5000mah pack for longer mains, it may only be 25C but the added capacity will give you longer run time and it's actually capable of a higher discharge than the 4100mah 30C or at least about the same, my brain isn't doing the math to well at the moment.

Last year I ran a 1515 2.5D on 5s and both my packs where 4500mah 25C. With an Eagle tree data logger I had a peak of 167 amps I beleive. This year I will be running 2 different packs myself, which may throw me off. I am going to run a CC/Neu 2200 and 4s, just ordered a Neu 5500XP 25C as my main pack and I'm gonna make a 4s pack out of one of my 5s packs, already robbed the other pack to make 2x 2s for my Maxx.

There is my build thread, it may or may not help

5955 is the older brother of the 7955. The only real big difference is the 7 series is programmable. I think 333oz of torque will be enough to turn the tires, it was more than enough for the Mugen.

The 5000s are getting tired, probably 60+ runs through them. I was still debating using the 3300s since I thought I'd use them in a SC truck, which I probably still will. Thanks for the tips, I'm very excited about this truck!

Sweet - sounds very similar to my Arrr See Ate Tee  I still haven't run mine yet but it sure looks nice! I'm running the RX8 1700 too, but I've got mine on 5s instead of 4s. I'm very excited to see how it handles.

I'm very tempted to buy some 3s packs to go with the couple 2s packs I just bought. I think 5s would be too much for any track around here unless I dialed down the power a lot. The runtime would go up though, so that would be a huge plus. What do you think Sower?

Well I've run mine up and down the street and it seems just about right with a 15t pinion. I haven't seen it on the track yet or tested the temps. My last XT8 had the 1550kv motor from Tekin but I didn't have that long enough to really test it either. I think the 1700kv will be a little slow on 4s. What gearing were you planning on running?

gtxracer 02.09.2010 01:19 AM

I ran 17t on the Mugen and it hit about 40. It was very fast and very quick to get there on 4s. I can get outrun by buggies with 2000kv motors but they aren't geared like me. I might drop to a 16t on 5s though.

Makes sense - well let me know what you think when you get it all together. Can't wait to see pics!

Will do. Mike shipped the RCM kit today and my truggy shipped the other day so it should be happening quick.

"The RCM kit should be here soon. It's not Mike's newest version, but I don't see that being a problem. "

there are diffrent versions? if i just purchased one a few days ago that would be the latest, correct? or is there a newer one on the horizon
thanks

gtxracer 02.09.2010 01:42 AM

It's the latest for the RC8T kit. If you look in the XT8 thread in this forum, there's a new 5 piece mount that will be coming out. From what I understand, you can still buy the 5 piece mount separate at a later time if you want. It will be easier to use and have a much firmer mounting face, not that the current edition has those problems at all.

I just bought another 4100mah EP pack from Neu....in 3s flavor :mdr:

gtxracer 02.09.2010 03:02 PM

I bought ANOTHER 3s 4100 EP pack this morning :mdr:

5s? Sure. 6s? Let's do it.

These look like cottom balls under the tank...

After about 30 minutes of wrenching, got it torn down

Here's the Kyosho 46T spur I'll be using, fit was tight but it shouldn't cause any problems. Also put 50K oil in the diff while I was in there. I'll change the front and rear later on after the initial drive

Looking good. Are you running extended hubs?

By the way, have you ordered anything from Tekin yet?
