Preventive Maintenance
Hi,
I just performed full maintenance procedure to my Brushless XT8 Truggy. I replaced the oils on the Diff’s, filled up missing oil in the shocks and checked the bearings condition. Last time I did that was 3 month ago – total of 5 hours of run time on the track. No major issue found but I did noticed that the oil in the diff’s become very thick and dirty. In addition to the above I’m cleaning my Truggy after every session on the track, looking for loose screws and cracked/broken parts. What are the maintenance intervals for you guys? 5 hours between preventive maintenance is good enough? |
What is this "maintenance" of which you speak?
I usually just run it until something needs to be done. I'll give it a decent glance every once in a while to make sure nothing is rusty, bearings are good, shocks are smooth, etc. If I run in wet conditions, I might dab a little WD40 on some places. It seems diff oil gets dirty after 0.0005 seconds of running, so I replace the oil maybe once a season. Same thing with shock oil. Yeah, those parts would last longer if maintained better, but I usually break something before it gets to that point. |
My Bash stuff; Befor every run I check steering, gear mesh and look for lose hardware/parts. Just takes a minute, Other than I run them till something breaks or causes a problem of some sort.
My Track stuff; Same as above but give everytning a solid going over the day prior to going to the track in case a issue is found and needs addressing . Regualr maitinance ; Twice a year I go through everything on each RC, check replace bearings, worn cvd's,pins etc rebuild diffs and shocks blah blah blah. |

When i brake mine i try to convince my wife that i need a new one and i could use this one for parts.Cant blame me for trying, but it doesnt work.

I give mine a cleanup after each day or bashing. For the diffs, shocks, bearings etc. I usually tear it down during the winter months (one truck at a time) and it goes to the dishwasher for a thorough cleaning.

Excuse me now while I go convince my GF. |
Just make sure you use cold water for aluminum parts. I made my mistake using the sanitized wash on my gmaxx and the hot water dulled the aluminum parts.
