bidproduct motors....are they any good?

there is a good chance there will be a truggy in my near future. i don't really want to shell out $120-140 for a CC/NEU motor and the bidproduct motors look like they would suffice for a mbx5-t geared for ~40mph.

this is the motor i'm looking at. http://bidproduct.com/part/Product_v...MOTOR_184.html i would be getting the 1510kv version and run it on 6s with a MMM. would the motor run too hot? i am assuming the motor is frim the same maker as my 3300kv hobbywing finned 1/10 motor. the design is similar and i'e heard it is the same manufacturer. my finned 3300kv motor runs at about 145F geared for 40mph on 3s.

would it work without getting too hot?

've been there, done that, got the t-shirt (sent postcard home)...

waste of money, sorry to say.

not without a reason they're called "turning toasters of death" or so...

probably a cheap alternative are e.g. the align 600l motors for helis, u get them on ebay quite cheap. for 5 or 6s a cheap alternative (they have about 1600kv). I had one and it worked well.

and for sure, there are some other budget-motors. here in europe, the losi motors are (almost) affortable, compared to other big brands, at least.

the new hobbywing motors seem to be good (4 pole), dunno if they're available soley.

there's been a discussion some months ago about some new 4 pole motors, can't remember the name. they're at leastcheaper then a neu, seem to be good. they're used by the boat guys.

sometimes you get the flux motors cheap at ebay (=cc neu).

Well, I have had a couple of them, and really been pretty pleased, they are def better than the hobbycity ones. Shipping takes several weeks though. I had the smooth can ones. I am not sure but you know how the ribbed 36mm hw motors are 380's, That may be the case with the one you linked. Like I said I had no complaints with the smooth can ones.

sikeston34m 02.22.2010 02:24 PM

Are these motors 4 pole or 2 pole?

junkman 02.22.2010 02:31 PM

I would imagine they are 2.

They have all the specs of Feigao motors but look cheaper made. I would just get a Feigao.

I had the exact same motor in ~1900kv flavour; killed it within a few runs on the Gmaxx with 6s2p A123 cells. I think it'll be fine so long as you keep the weight and rpms down, they really dont like being 'loaded up' too much. 2 pole yes, well put together but no better than a feigao for power/ temps- cheaper though...

scarletboa 02.23.2010 01:18 AM

do you think the 1510kv could push a stock mbx5t to 40mph without too much heat on 6s? it would be spinning at 33k rpm.

suicideneil 02.23.2010 02:13 PM

I do think that would be fine- lower rpms and less weight = happy motor :mdr:

I still wonder if the ribbed cans are actually 380's like the hobbywings.

the motor can itself is 43mm . the motor inside the can is a true 540 sized motor

btw, the deal fell through on the mbx5t i was going to buy. the seller sold it locally AFTER i paid for it. hopefully he refunds the money.....
