My experience with the Ultima SC

Bought one tonight, broke it TWICE.

ESC fried within seconds of connecting my Neu 2s 30C 3300 mah lipo. Lots of smoke, horrible pop.

Drive axle snapped like a twig. Not cool.

Handling - awesome, very very good.

Overall - can be a good truck, but damn does it need some small upgrades before even considering racing.

Replaced the drive axle with a Blitz unit. Broke the other Kyosho unit days after that but I took 2nd in the SC open main...with a 27T stock motor and SC10 stock ESC :D

Nice, where you race at?

gtxracer 02.27.2010 05:49 PM

I race at Four Seasons RC and sometimes Tacoma RC up here in the Olympia/Tacoma area of WA.

There were two of these at the track last night set up for ROAR SCT racing. They took first and fourth. They were FAST.

Little update...

I currently have a Mamba Pro/7.5R in there with Neu lipos. I also bought the Velvet shocks, upgraded motor plate, and the Kyosho CVDs. It's a lot smoother now but still got some cogging with the MP/7.5R setup. I am going to order a RS/10.5 combo soon I think, Tekin has always been good to me.

Also, use some rubber compound on the stock tires and it really makes them stick. Don't even need calibers after a couple sessions with the compound.

Well I have a lot more faith in this truck now. Here's my current setup:

Stock wheels/tires with 2x traction compound
Tekin RS/10.5 combo
Neu 3300 30C 2s lipo
16 pinion, want to go 17
gear diff, stock, want to go AE black
Velvets, 3b all around, 35F 30R
shocks all the way out
Kyosho CVDs and blue hexes
wide blocks
dropped down LOW, CVDs level in back and arms level in front

Overall it's been a lot tougher lately. I managed to crack a t plate and that's why I kept ripping out rear arms. Anyone have a link to the metal version of the little plastic balls that go over the hinge pins in the rear? Oh, and I guess the hot setup here is to use the wide block up front and a regular block in the rear to make it have even more toe in. Haven't tried it yet, but I will.

I've been tempted to grab one of these and an RT5 to make a team version, but I've wrapped up a fair amount in my slash and love to tinker with it. Thanks for the updates... How about some pics?

I'll get some soon, probably Thursday while I'm at the track. I pulled some laps last night and it was pretty fast. I hadn't tweaked the RS yet, but I got it on hotwire late last night and it should make for a very fast setup.
