So I Like Buggies......

Thought id post some pics or my buggies, i was big into nitro but left it a few months back once i discovered turnigy lipo's and im glad i did. I also sold of most of my nitro motors and about 7 or 8 cars i no longer wanted and with the money startered converting over. SO FAR fully converted i have a LOSI 8ight pulling 104 MPH, A inferno GT/VE convertion pulling 103MPH and i just finished up my RC8 which ive yet to test out but ill be running the same set up as the other 2 buggies. Im also in the process of converting my MUGGY and CRT.5 over to brushless also. Ill post pics of those when there done!!!

What do you guys think???

Green Losi Eight
Gold Inferno GT/VE
Red RC8

FYI The foams on the RC8 are only for SHO untill i get another set of GRP tires for it.

I want to see videos of the 100 mph runs. Buggies look great.

Nice collection...how are the foam tires as far as handling at high speeds. What brand are they...compound..thanks

Those foams are the ofna ones. They blow up at about 70MPH if your trying to go fast dont even both they blow right off extremely easily under brushless power. Like i sayed i only got them on for sho, they do handle great and make the car handle extremely well in the streets but after 70MPH they pretty much worthless when they exploded and cause you car to cartwheel at those speeds.

So how did you manage to hit 103 and 104 mph if the tires were blowing up at 70 mph? WHat tires did you use to achieve those speeds?

The GRP rubber tires that are mounted on the other 2 cars.

several of us got the 8ights to 100 this summer. it's a great platform to use especially with the grp tires.

the rc8 is a great buggy. i've got both the buggy and the truggy version. the only thing that kept me from getting the rc8 before i got my losi 8ights was that it had a lower gear reduction. most buggies as you probably know run about 3.3:1, but the rc8's run 4.3:1. so, i could always gear my losi 8ights higher.

after alot of asking around different forums, someone here pointed me towards sDPI. they make mod 1 pinions all the way up to 40T, so now i could really gear it up the way i wanted to.

both are great buggies.

good luck.

You hit the nail on the head, Thats EXACTLY why i built the losi and inferno BOTH car run the same gear ratio internally AND on the spur/pinion. As of right now i have my RC8 geared 26/38 so i should be somewhere in the mid 90's I still got plenty of gear options to get the car up to 100.I was pretty happy with the losi and inferno and never planned to jump on a RC8 but when it came time to sell my axial crawler i was offered the RC8 with the 2650MMM combo for a trade and just couldn't pass it up.

Basically im using them as play cars just stuff to mess around with in parking lots. But i do have plans to get atleast one of them into the 120+MPH club. But thats a future project.

Dwight - if you dont mind me asking what did you do to the center drive shafts on your losi's??? me and 2 of my other friends keep dumping out the pin in the center cvd's like its nothing. I bought some heavy duty thread lock at auto zone that is rated for 300+ degrees. Im hoping that will solve my issue's did you have the same problems??? if so what was your fix??? I loose the CVD pin every 3 or 4 packs of batteries.

i resigned myself to having to change the pinion coupler and the driveshaft at the same time, so what i do can't be undone.

i threadlock the screw, and the pin in and then i scuff the coupler and use a drop of jbweld over each hole where the pin sits and let it cure and dry for 24 hours. that will lock the pin in, and jbweld is good for 500+ degrees and works on virtually every metal surface. then i use the cvd boots for good measure. i haven't had one come loose or out since last summer when i did the mod.

i have a question for you, if you don't mind.

where did you get a 38t spur for the rc8?

DCastaneda 02.27.2010 05:16 PM

Dwight, you already know the answer to that question. The real question is how to mount it. :P

i'd also like to know how to mount it cause he obviously figured it out.

man....i love how i offer up all my mods with no second thoughts and i can't get the answer to a simple question. people not sharing makes me grumpy especially when i'm always fourthcoming.

thanks for the reply D.

I bought a Losi 1.5 a month ago and never had problems with the pin. The previous owner did some thread lock on it. That should fix your problem. Oh, and I have boots on it for double protection.

But are you getting your buggy up to 100 MPH like the other guys are?
