help with details

hi guys, i just pm'd mike to order a lehner 1950/8 and a bk 12020. in a week or 2 i will order the g2r roller. what are the necessities for this truck to become really tough and precise on the track? would i be better off buying the gmaxx tranny? i'm using a spektrum dx3 radio, so what servo is recommended? what tires and wheels? what body will fit the g2r? what pinion? as you can see i need lots of help and i can't wait to get started on this project. i know everyone will give me great advice, i just have to be patient. thanks, carl.:004:

well lets see here.

as for necessities, p2 rockers are a must, small things like the aluminum hollow balls, aluminum rocker post (or titanium), titanium turnbuckles, and the traxxas aluminum pushrods are all good additions as well. oh, a wing is a MUST in my opinion. your truck will handle and jump much better. its not hard to make one work. a few washers, some long screws and a mbx 5 wing.

i would cetainly go for the gmaxx tranny and i would also spring for the flm half case, strobe slipper and a steel idler is a must. i would also go for a rc-monster heatsink/clamp. you wont be able to use the clamp part but it will certainly keep that expensive motor cool.

i would recommend a bluebird 660 if you want to save a bit of money. they are good servos, especially for the price. the hitec 645s are also good.

as for wheels and tires, i would go for the wabash rims and crimefighter tires. i have the wabash/crimes and the velocity/crimes and the velocities make it as wide as it is long. its a tad to wide for me.

as far as bodies, i like the crowd pleaser 2.0. its made for a revo although the g2r is a tad longer than a stocker, you should be fine.

im not to sure on the kv of the 1950/8 so i cant really recommend a pinion but that would also depend on the number of cells and if you run a strobe slipper.

tallyram 03.20.2006 11:13 PM

i'm going to run lipo, everyones telling me 6 cells. i just don't fully understand series and parallel yet. i will be running a strobe slipper, when i find one. can someone help me out a little with choosing series or parallel? thanks for info squee, this truck is finally starting to coming together.

Gustav 03.20.2006 11:46 PM

You'll be running 6 cells in series with that motor,2 3s packs in series. You could run 2 3s1p packs in series(22.2 volts),good high capacity packs with a high C rating,or you could run 2 3s2p packs in series(also 22.2 volts) ,twice the capacity and amp handling (but twice the size and weight too)
2 6s1p in parralel would be the same as 2 3s2p in series.confused? Check out Batfish's stickyhttp://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2250

Edit:aluminium diff cups would be a good idea.

do i need a 4mm or 5mm mod1 pinion for a 1950?

Gustav 03.28.2006 12:17 AM

5mm on the 1950.

tallyram 03.28.2006 12:29 AM

thank you! i know i should start gearing at 15/51, what other pinions should i get?

Gustav 03.28.2006 12:44 AM

It would take a 18/51 i would think,it's a fair amount of power there, just keep an eye on the temps, get yourself an I.R temp thingy if you haven't got one.For the track i'd try the 15 tooth.

tallyram 03.28.2006 12:57 AM

what servo would you recommend?

coolhandcountry 03.28.2006 07:53 AM

What tires you run and diffs? I run different gears depending on tires. For a set of like bowties or crimes the 18 works well. You could run a 20 on them as well. I run a 16 51 on the big joes. I have buggy diffs though.

Gustav 03.28.2006 02:07 PM

It's a g2r,i forgot about that,18/51 on 3.3:1 diffs is between 15/51 and 16/51 on your revo diffs,so i'd get a 15 and also maybe a slightly smaller pinion for the track, depending on what tyres you run.You could still maybe run 18/51 for some speed runs but this is higher than i was thinking before,i was thinking 3.3:1 but your diffs are higher ratio,2.85:1.

coolhandcountry 03.28.2006 03:22 PM

The best servo I have ran is the hitec 5955 tg. It is awesome servo.

tallyram 03.28.2006 03:39 PM

thanks coolhand, i'm getting one. btw, what kind of screws do i need for mounting the 1950 to the heavy duty traxxas motor mount, and where do i get them?

coolhandcountry 03.28.2006 04:04 PM

i use a 3 mm cap head screw. I am not sure on the length right off. I like a small washer on it to.
