MBX5T conversion
 

Hi everyone,
I am happy to be able to post and reply to the thread of this wonderful forum yet ;)
As the title says, my project is to convert a mbx5T nitro into Brushless configuration. I have already an idea on the ESC : MMM v3.

==> For the motor, I am still hesitating betwen the 2 Castle motors : 1717 1580 kV and 1520 1600kV.
I know that Its better to put a powerful motor like the 1717 to minimize the heat and optimize efficiency, but i dont think I can find a motor mount capable of holding this very strong and heavy motor without colapsing :(
Therefore, my choice would be the 1520 1600kV, but I hope his power is enough to run without too much heat.
What is the best voltage for thoses motors, 5S or 6S Lipo ?

==> Is the RC monster motor mount strong enough to hold thoses big Castle motors ?

==> I am also searching the best battery tray for this chassis. The losi one would be OK or maybe you have other trays to advice ?

For the motor mount, I like the Elite RC mounts. VERY nice and should hold the 1717 just fine. Your only problems will be the 1717 has the 6mm shaft where as the bearing in the Elite RC mount is a 5mm. I'm not sure if they make a 10x6mm bearing. At worst, you just wait for the 1717 with a 5mm shaft (should be out soon) or use no bearing. Also, I'm not sure if they have one for the MBX5T, but I know they have one for the MBX6. If there the same, then your good to go, but I don't know if the diff holders are the same, so I can't say for sure. I would assume they are.

As for the battery tray, again, I REALLY like the Elite RC tray. Its universal I do believe, but it wouldn't be hard to make it work. I really like the fact that its adjustable. For 5S or 6S, I guess it would depend on which motor, and what you plan to do with it, yada yada. Buy one of both and go from there is probably my best advice. I'm not really sure if you've ever had BL or LiPo for that matter, so 6S might be a bit much, especially if you plan to race.

Dont worry, I already have an inferno VE with a MMM/1515Y 4S 2200kV configuration (the ORION 2050 died after 183 batteries cycles, problem with hard wires...) since 4 months. I have already ran 280 batteries of 2500mAh with it.
I am not looking for madness high speed runs, I just want to optimize run time and efficiency of the motor (cool run).
Yeah I have seen the RC elite motor mount, but the hole for the pinion seems to be a little small for the pinion screw :(.

the 1515 1y castle/neu motor is pretty much the standard for truggies at the moment. that's what i plan on running in my truggy.

If I were you I'd get a lower kv neu motor and run it on 6s for maximum efficiency.

I know, but I had a bad experience with hard motor wires before....... Moreover the neu is an open can, and I dont want to spend time to fill the holes properly ;)

As I said to you in a pm, I run the 1520 on 5s and in my opinion it's perfect. I had the ccneu1515 in there first and it was almost to fast for what I was doing

I have had no issues with the RCMonster Mugen motor mount as well. If you need a custom size battery tray, you could have Mike make you one to your desired specs. for just a little more. I have 5 custom trays Mike has made me over the past 2+ years and I am very happy w/them.

One more thing...check you diffs for proper shimming. I bought my mbx5t used and forgot to check the diffs...shame on me...and ended up blowing 2 diffs.

Yeah, I know that shimming is important on diffs, I just discover yesterday that it exists different puck sizes for diff shimming. Therefore I just reajust it on my inferno VE and its quite perfect, the conicals arent making some strange noise anymore.
