Drifting, had to try it out....my new build!!

So I know most you guys think this is pointless but after watching some vids of this passing fad I had to just try it out. It was an itch that needed handeled. I am an old import guy and my last "cool" car was a JDM front Champ White Type R. It was my love!!

Anyway... So here is my platform started in the direction of drifting!! Something totally new to me.

So far the wheels were ordered from Hong Kong....body also to be revealed soon. Also I have some sic sic sic falken azenis that I picked out at the LHS, I smiled so hard when I found them as they were what I had mounted on my Japanese RSZ-R's on the Type R before the wifey made me get rid of her.

A few blisters later from mounting the drift tires in boiling water and I am here.

Looks very nice ! As mentioned, over kill for a drifter but very very nice.

Ok, that is a valid point.

Not a fan of chrome lipped wheels, but it looks great.

sweet ride. I converted my mbx-5 over to a road car so that is going to be my new drift car when the weather breaks

Ya the chrome is not my gig either but this is a different segment all together, Hard to find the right wheels IMO.

Had a solid TT01, just basic upgrades, bearings, locked rear diff, alu driveshaft.
I loved driving that baby, but gave up drifting after I KINDA mastered it, and nobody around me is RC so...

Don't boil your fingers, go BL and drift fast with regular rubber or foam.

Same here, built a pretty sweet T4 Factory Team drifter and had tons of fun w/it. The regrettable part was when I checked into drift clubs they were mostly really young guys and kiddies. I felt a little out of a place, a 40yr old dude playing with children didn't seem right.
The road in front of my house is slick asphalted and was a hoop to learn on but alas, no one to join it on the fun it became boring.

i've seen some kids drifting there tamiyas in a parking lot before,a few did ok but it was usually spinning out,not drifting, not one of'em over 14 though...

AMorgan 03.17.2010 09:31 AM

I keep getting tempted to do this, but always shy away at spending the money... maybe I'll make my Trueno Cup Racer into a drifter with some hard tires. Good luck with the project!

I just want to try it out....wost case scenerio I hate it and Im out a set of wheels and tires. I had the t2009 already on the way just because its such a sexy rig. I just want to look at it for a while then send it down the road to a new owner.

Hmm, sounds like fun. Is that your plan for all your new build that you have debuted lately?

If so, send that LST XXL my way for a bashing!

Well, poor blistered fingers. You were right to boil the tires. It's really the easiest way to get them on the rims. You can try putting the rims into the freezer to enable easier fitting next time. The tires you use are good but might be too grippy to enable a nice drift. Check your LHS if they have either the HPI T-Drifts or Tamiya Super Driftech. Both are good for concrete grounds.
