Best way to remove stripped screws?
Wassap guys?
Im trying to get my new tc apart for anodizing and 2 of the screws are stripped out bad. Whats the best way to go about this? Ive heard of using a dremel and slotting the screw but I dont wanna mess my chassis up with it? Do those reverse threaded bits actually work for taking stripped screws out? |
Never had any joy with the reverse threaded bits, I usually drill out the hex hole with a drill bit 1 size up, then get an old Allen Key, and push it in and apply some epoxy or red loctite and let it dry. Hopefully after that the allen key can be used to turn the screw out.

All of us run into this situation once in a while and it will happen try to get yourself an easy out set they sell them at sears or try ebay get nice sharp bits and remember you will use it more than once, then get some small vice grips and remove when you have the a grip, always start with the smallest bit and slow precision

Fast- Thats a good idea! I might have to try that if the was swift shows
Swift- yeah thats what I was thinking. Im going to hit up sears tomorrow and see what they have. Hopefully that way will work out! Thanks guys |
just use a cut off wheel in a dremel and cut a slot in the head of the screw and use a flathead screwdriver to remove it.
works for me every time provided you can get to the screw to grind the slot |
If the hex is flushed up against the chassis; you can try to use the method with the dremel, making a slot like Hautz mentioned which is easy but have enough head on the hex to do but it sounds like you went at it and its worn; opt to use the easy out if you can drill nice and center smallest bit and slow

Also, try heating it with a micro torch, if you have one... helps to release it in most cases.

Well I got some of those extractor bits from sears today and that did the trick! Was pretty painless and works good. I cant believe I hadnt bought these earlier!
Jeff- That would of been my next way, but I didnt want to grind into my cf chassis. I guess if I had a small enough cut off bit that could work though Thanks for the help guys! :D |
