hakko soldering station....which one??
 

So I am in the market to get a soldinering station...my weller I believe is taking a shizz on me or the tip is fried out. nonetheless I would like to buy a Hakko and wondering what you soldering guys recommend for my best choice.

936. Mine is pretty nice!

Can't go wrong with a hakko 936. It's a bargain at @$80. Mine is several years old and the tip is still like new. And I used to keep it on all day at the races back when I was still running hardwired nimh packs. I turn the temp down while not in use, but have forgotten and left it up around 50% all night a couple times, without any harm done.

Only a solder snob will say you need something better. :)

I have the 936-13 which comes with the large 908 iron w/large chisel tip. I believe it's the same model marketed to r/c with the skins, and is great for doing general rc stuff like battery connectors, etc. I manage to do almost all my soldering with it, but a smaller tip would be good if you do a lot of small stuff. It's easy to swap out tips.

I have been using my Hakko 936 for over thirteen years with the same original tip. It still works like the first day I got it. I love working with it.

936 here also, great iron and gets HOT quickly.

I just use a Hakko 60w iron with chisel tip (don't know the model) and a homemade adjustable temperature soldering station. Works well and is even cheaper than $80. :smile:

I was in the exact same boat as you and with a bit of research I realized how sweet this little peice of equipment is!

I made a best off for 65 and was accepted.. try 60 bucks and maybe youll get it all for less than 70! The tips are legit too. Ive used a few and they are all great.

Like someone sais the iron heats up literally in 10 seconds. Its insane how awesome this soldering station is.

For the past 2-3 years Ive stuck with radio shack 45 watt irons and every few months I buy new tips or just replace the iron.. probably spent a good 60 bucks on these crappy irons

The 936 is sick. hands down

so whats the difference between the 11-12-13 series 936??

Yea I have had my 936 for about two years now and love it. Never any issues, and it is always hot when you need it to be. It heats up in seconds and the temp adjust is a nice feature. My iron tip still look like it did when it was brand new. I bought a spare but who knows when it will be put into use?

Same unit, but with different irons.

11 = small iron/tip
12= medium iron/tip
13 = large iron/tip

I have a homemade station too, made with a dimmer switch. :) I used it with the old hardware store Weller 40w and 80w, then with a nicer weller, with a blue handle and foam grip.
Even after I got a Hakko, I used it with the 80w for doing nimh packs. But with the nimh age long gone, the poor thing never gets used anymore :no:

Okay ordered the 936-12 with two tips....with the graphics, just for the purdy colors. :party:
