axle pin problem
don't know if you guys can help, got a flm/mmm maxx with 1/8 scale diffs, running on 5s,and i keep breaking the right rear axle pin,i've replaced that pin about a dozen times can't figure it out.unless i've got issues with the diff may need to take it apart.haven't had any probs with the other 3 corners.am using mip cvds on this for 6 years, wouldn't think that would be the problem.anyone have any ideas.thanks oh my the way have used 17mm. traxxas, ofna's and currently use integyswhich have been the best hub so far.

Make your own pin from hardened drill bit shank.

Is the hole the pin goes through stretched or elongated at all ( loser fit than the others )? If it is, then it could be that the pin is able to rotate in the hole enough as the wheel hex rotates along with it, causing the pin to snap as it stops rotating but the hex carries on- crap description but hopefully you see what Im getting at.

understand both scenarios, but i wonder why its just the one pin and not the others

Idle speculation:
if the front end lifts under power ( perfectly natural ), then more load is placed on the rear axles/ pins. Thats a given pretty much, but if you also factor in torque steer perhaps, then maybe that one pin is subjected to even more load that the other side, so it tends to snap more frequently. Could also be a factor is you make more left turns than right turns- outside wheel has to make more turns and is subjected to unloading forces more often due to diff action. Speculation... |
well that sounds like a reasonal observation, will replace stub and see what happens.thanks
