Summer and extra cooling

Hi guys,

I've bought an eight last month. I'm really happy with it and it drives good! I got an extra Jconcepts that needed a paint job. I've painted that body 2 days ago, but the heat is a problem now. Temps are getting up to 74°C when I'm driving on grass. It's a bit lower when i'm driving on sand.

I drilled some holes in the front window and in the back of the body, but it doesn't seem to help that much. Maybe because I'm not making enough speed in my garden and constantly accelerating.
If I take of the body for 1-2mins the temp drops immediately to 45-55°C.

My gearing is 15/45 with a 2200KV MMM engine. I think that ok? It's geared for 67km/h (42mph).

With a nitro body, the temps are much lower 55-60°C.

The ESC is okay because of the fan. ESC temp stays always under 55-60°C.

If running in grass, gearing down a tooth or two on the pinion will reduce the load on the motor and will run cooler.

Yea I was thinking about that. But with a nitro body with big holes for refueling and the heatsink, my temps are much lower. 55°C-65°C.

I'd like to know some good places to make vents for the engine. I'm running a standard conversion btw. So no tekno layout for me, just the normal spacing.

Hell my buggies all run hot, then again I have the Kershaw motors in both, not too efficient. I am thinking of upgrading in the near future to a lower KV, but for now I would recommend lowering the timing and you gear ratio with a smaller pinion.

I'll try lowering the timing first since I have only a 15T and 16T pinion.
Or just drive with me nitro body with the big holes :p

i normally cut holes in the body, even my electric bodies for better airflow.
however, another option is to run a motor fan off a 2-3S heli lipo. the one i use for my motor fan only weighs 2 ounces and keeps my motor cool when airflow is restricted.

I have 12 10mm holes in the front window and 10 10mm holes in the back.
I made a little track in the garden and tested it with the new body. The track is so small that I never go above 30km/h I guess, so the airflow is very restricted cause I make no speed :p
When I do 4 times a 100m straight on top speed, the motor is much cooler after that :D

I'm just back from my mini track and my hitec died :(
I'm thinking about and ACE1015 or a Hitec 7955TG for my Losi buggy. I was running an old Hitec 625mg.
