is the mugen mbx 5 raceworthy as a electric?
i have a almost new mbx5 buggy, that i know isnt worth selling,it has a fiorni chassie, shock towers and braces, not sure on weight. my electronics will be tekin rx8 wit a 1900 or 1700 motor on 4s,so i have heard people say to buy truggy motors instead of buggy motors, what do u think

The tekin buggy motors (1200Watts) are a little weak compared to a Castle 2200kV motor which is standard 1500Watts motor. They heat up and have lack of torque and efficiency in 1:8 buggy. If you want absolutely a tekin combo, take the truggy motor instead. Note that tekin truggy motors are little less powerfull than the Castle too...
the mbx5 races great with electric motor ;) |
I was under the impression the 1512 size Castle, Neu, and Tekin motors were perfect for 1/8 buggies.

used to have 1512 2050kv on 5s in truggy and monster truck. no heat issues at all. with race gearing to about 38mph.
mbx5 is bit outdated and has no chance agains new generation of buggies like mbx6, 8ight 2.0 d8 etc. however in hands of a good driver it can do well |

Speedy BL, yes, but with the tekin truggy motor, your temps would be between 80 and 100F for the same top speed, with the increased efficiency...
Here in Europe we have tracks with long straight parts and very hard small curves, and the tekin buggy motor are just in lack of power compared to the truggy motor or the Castle 1515... We can't gear it for more 35mph unless it overheat, that's why we take bigger motors to keep temps good. Maybe your track is not as difficult for your setup as ours... More over, the truggy motors weights only 40 gramms more and is not more expansive... and he will be able to use it later, if he buy a truggy... Always better to have power in the hand and to not use it than the contrary. |
buggys dont make the man
with pratice and a good setup you can win with an older buggy 99% of the people you will race at the track are no where near the pro level, my laps are quicker with my 8ight but im still a monster on the track with my old lightning 2 |
