Getting sick of blowing cheap servo gears!

Hey guys! I can't even tell you how many servo gears I have gone thru on my ERevo. I have it set up for single steering and use the Traxxas 2075 servos BECAUSE they are cheap and waterproof. BUT, every time I run my truck, I blow the gears. I think it's because of the absolute butt ripping power my truck has, combined with Badlands. I think the speed of the truck and grip of the tires is what's doing it.

SO... rather than having to keep replacing $4 gears, I think I'm going to just get a better servo. My concern is... should i go back to a dual steering servo set up or stick with the single?

BRO swears by these cheap servos on Ebay... so I think I might give one a try when they are back in stock.

I wonder if the HiTech 5625 or 645M's would be sufficient if running just one?

I can also buy my buddy's Ko Propo PDS-2368 servo for cheap. But I still can't help but think that even a $150 servo isn't that much more bulletproof then the $20 servo's Bro abuses daily!

Either way... I need a better servo, but I don't want to break the bank, nor do I want to keep blowing servos! My ERBE is down all the time because of it!

Thanks!

Forget those - Invest in a good one... Hitec 7955 or 7950 and don't worry about it again..

Get a good all metal geared servo like the ones above or a jr9100t and forget about it. A single plastic geared servo will not last in a MT. You'll also notice alot better steering than even dual 2075's or 645M's. Besides like a radio it's an investment, my jr9000t has been in 4 different MT's over the years. Like my radio, I won't get rid of it till it's dead.

My reasoning behind using the Traxxas 2075 was based on my never usually blowing gears in them in my other trucks. But this truck eats them for lunch, almost immediately. I figured at $3 a gear set, that's like 23 times I can fix it before I've spent the money on a good servo. And I never expected to ever hit that mark! But in this truck... it'll happen if I don't do something now. My radios are all nice, my trucks are all top notch, motors, esc's, lipos.. etc... But I'll damned if I'll spend more than $50 on a servo to turn the thing! LOL! Ok ok... it's time!

My buddy is going to sell me is Kyosho servo for $60. It was used like once, and is nearly a $200 servo. So why not?

Man, that KO servo is nice and all... but I don't know much about servos to be honest. Those Hitec's have about twice as much torque, with the same speed. It makes my stomach churn just thinking about sending that kind of jack on a servo though. Ugh. I can barely stomach spending $60 on that KO servo, but I will. However, I won't if you think it's a bad idea.

I'm sure the JR and Hitec's mention are the bomb though, and worth every penny. But still!

I have run a single jr9100t and a pair of futaba 3050 servos. All are metal gear. The pair of 3050 servos did very well, I was impressed. I had to fool around a bit to get all of the linkages adjusted correctly, but it worked great in the end. The 9100t was faster and stronger, but also cost twice what a pair of 3050s do...

I have several ACE servos and they are holding up very well. Cheaper than the high-price brands and well-built: http://www.acehobby.com/ace/digital_srv.htm

agreed

my HS 7955TG was worth every penny

im was very torn spending $100 on a servo but it has lasted me 2 years and the gears still look new, i used to buy afew $30-$40 servos a year before i got the TG

Would a Hitec 985MG be too underpowered for a single steering setup? It has metal gears. My crappy 2075 was fine, but the tires, low COG, and power of my ERBE put too much strain on the gears. I realize the others have more torque, and are twice as much. But a lotta guys run them. Heck, BRO has gotten tons of life out of his $20 Ebay MG servo!

when i comes down to it i think the servo really "makes" the car or truck. I run the $$$ high speed servo in all my cars. (.o6 -.07 speed) and honestly i cant drive a car with a slow servo, it looks like i have delayed reaction time and then i drive with a fast servo and im spot on....

after i switched to top notch servos a couple years ago ill never run another car without a good servo.

buy a Jr 91000t, a Hitec 7955, ACE 1015 or 1313

if you dont think it is completely worth the money you can always sell it. but trust us youll love a stout servo.

Heck, i even run a 7955TG in my RCM converted TEN-T.

agreed, most people have to learn that the hard way, they get a real servo and they will never go back, just like buying highend lipos

I like Hitec so much that I run their servos on all my truck (either 7955TG or the older 5955TG). Their warranty and service is second to none. I stripped the titanium output gear on one of my servos and when I called them to ask if they sell the part separately, they said no but offered me to shipped it to them so they can replace it. I told them I didn't have the receipt anymore and don't even know when I both it but they still went out of their way to replace my bad servo.

That made me a customer for life.
