motor mount issues
i'm using Mike's motor mount on all my 8ights. they're great, but reciently, i've been having some issues with the motor coming loose when landing a big jump. so much so, i stripped out 2 of the motor holes yesterday. is there anything i can do to prevent this?
i was thinking about getting Mike's front motor spacer, but it looks like he's using 4mm screws on it. aren't the castle/neu holes 3mm? would i then have to re-tap the motor, cause i've never done that, and am really hesitant to try. are there any solutions i'm missing? do you guys threadlock your screws? |
Personally I use 262 on my motor screws, I have also gone to 4mm on the top screw using what I know as a plug tap so I don't touch the windings
Nice looking MX track BTW |

wow....now i feel dumber than shit.... i just realized i didn't have the rear motor cradle on my motor which could be a big cause as well. http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/g.../cradle001.jpg :oops: |
......looks like i can use a longer screw as well without it touching any of the windings. the neu/castle motor has a plate between the screws and the windings. my guess is for protection.

Where did you find that motor cradle? Havent seen one of those before.....

I was wondering where that cradle came from maybe I can use it to support my NEU xt8 motor because of the stiff wires I placed a small square piece of rubber

like Bondonutz said, it comes with the losi e conversion.
turns out, my whole endbell was stripped from me overtightening. Thank God Castle is about to release the motor repair kits. In the meantime, i'm gonna use Mike's motor cover to suppliment my motor screws with my other builds. that'll be the long term solution along with the cradle. i was chatting with someone here when they suggested Mike's motor covers. he said when he was stripping endbell screws, he bought Mike's cover, and he's been issue free since then. that was a huge relief. we all should raise a cold one and toast Mike. He's always got great products to take care of us. |
I use a lock/spring washer on mine. No need for the loctite.
