How to clean off road tires?
 

I saw many YouTube video about cleaning tires they wash it with running water n use simple green.

What I m worried is water gets into the foam from the tire holes. Is that the correct way?

My tires are full of mud now n I can't stand it.

I have seen nifty homemade tire scrubbers. Basically a scrub brush mounted to the bottom of a bucket. Fill with soapy water and scrub away. If you punch holes in your tires they will self remove water as you drive. Not the best idea, but alot of racers do it so it must be ok.

How I do it depends on if the dirt is wet or dry. If wet/damp, I put the truck securely on a stand and run some full throttle bursts to spin it off. Do this outside (unless you want your house spattered in mud) and stand to the side. :wink:

If the dirt is dry, I'll break up the dirt by squeezing the tires. Then, set the throttle trim so it runs about 200 rpm without a trigger finger, and hold the truck over the stiff bristles of a push broom.

Get rid of most excess dirt by spinning tires in the air. Some foams (molded ones) can handle a bit of water, otherwise plug holes with appropriate size screws. Then scrub-a-dub-dub.

When I bash or hit the track the last thing I do is drive my trucks through some grass. It brushes off most of all the loose stuff all by itself.

holes in the tires and dont SUBMERGE them in water, just get your brush wet (stiff bristled car tire brush works great) dab a little soap on the tire and scrub them with the brush, itll make alot of foam and after you scrub them really well rinse them breifly under running water. dry them with a towel, and then coat them in simple green scrub the wheel face and then just dry the rest off. Theyll look brand new.

I agree with Bondo, grass is a good cleaner of dirt and mud.

personally i dont run holes in my tires. just a way for dirt to get in and unbalance your treads. definately dont submerge them but like the others above said use a stiff brush(i use a tire scrub brush from pep-boys) and a bucket of water and simple green. just scrub the tire real good and rinse the tire by spinning the tread through the water.

Take the R/C onto Asphalt, it works as well, still a little dusty maybe, but no chunks of dirt would stay.

Holes are actually a very good idea. Without holes the tire will act like a basketball and not allow your suspension to work most effectively. Also any moisture that does seep in has no way to get in. I have found that a 1/8" drill bit in my dremel tool makes a nice clen hole, I make two per tire 180* from each other. As long as you don't submerge the tire there's no problem, and if you do get them relly wet drive at moderate speed for a minute and watch the water get rung out of the tires then open it up, if you just give it full throttle with wet tire the unbalance of them is likely to rip them off the rims.

I love running my trucks when its raining with no protection (hehe.. Oh boy, Linc..), love to get it muddy (that's what she said?), and when I'm about to go in, run it in the grass (since it's raining it should be pretty wet.. That's what she said), then give it a quick go on the asphalt to fling all the excess dirt/water off, and drive it to me!
