Sidewinder

Does it have a built-in BEC or not? Thanks.

Yes but linear so will get hot on 3s

My experience with the sidewinder in my crawler was not too hot. On 3s lipo trying to run a jr 9000t servo would cause the voltage to drop so much that the spectrum rx would switch off... So I upgraded to a ccbec and set it for 6.5v. Plenty of juice to the servo and rec, no more problems. On 2s the internal bec may be ok, but on 3s I would use an external bec.

James, did you have to remove/cut the red wire?

Arct1k 05.02.2010 06:04 PM

yes you do

George16 05.02.2010 08:13 PM

Thanks.

This is my first time to use a CC BEC so I'm not sure. I normally use Dimension Engineering's Sport BEC on my crawler and didn't have to remove the red wire.

Thats probably as the ESC plugs into the BEC. All the BEC does is terminate the ESC's red wire and pass through the signal and black.

You have an option of direct wiring the BEC to the servo (using a y splitter) and leaving the red wire in on the esc. I do this on my crawlers to stop the RX having 4+ amps going through it...

To do this I use a revo servo splitter... Plug servo and BEC into Y - and plug Y into steering on RX - Just remove the red line on the Y section into the RX and optionally the signal on the BEC branch of the Y. This has the benefit of leaving all cables intact which is very helpful for software updates etc...

Thanks Chris. That's basically what I did since I have an extra Y splitter. This is for my crawler, by the way.

Is your name James? NO. Mine is, and yes George I did remove the red wire to isolate the internal bec.

Damn mods, jumping in to answer questions...
