Technical support for HOBBYWING products
Hi guys, I am assigned to test n race hobbywing products mainly 1/8 electric but I am also testing 1/10 products mainly esc & motors.
Any problems you guys faced can post here if I can't answer u I will ask the engineers in china for u. I have been working closely with hobbywing for the past 1 year plus, racing n pushing their products to the max. Racing them! I have burnt esc ranging from hardware to software n motors. Emailed for support n answers. So today I would like to help bashers, racers or whoever using hobbywing products so they can get help or support. Feel free to ask questions team drivers for hobbywing or hobbywing users can chip in your views n Answers too. |
I am running a HobbyWing eZRun 80A ESC, KD36-74-1900kV Motor (with Turnigy Heatskin & Fan), and a pair of Zippy 30C 4S 2650mAh LiPo Batteries wired in parallel (4S-14.8V @ 5300mAh & 159A) in my Dad's E-Revo (stock except for Pro-Line Maxx Mulchers on Pro-Line Velocity 23mm ½" Off-Set Wheels with Dace Mfg. 23mm Hex-Adapters) geared for 38mph...
I have left most of the ESC settings on default, except setting the Timing to 0° and the Punch to 50%, but I have heard running 0° of timing is actually a bad thing...is this true? Default is 15°, but since the KD motors are known to run warm, I set the timing to 0° in order to keep it cool. I have never had any overheating issues, but would just like your input on the timing, and anything else you would like to add. Thanks in advance... |
0 timing is not a good idea I suggest u gear down. Or change the motor. Kd motor is 2pole. 4pole is better.
Esc seldom overheats unless fan spoil. Quote:

So, apparently, the KD motor is crap...I have heard this a lot lately, even though all of the reviews I have ever read (100s) about the motor were very good, with the only bad things being that it runs slightly warm and the endbell sometimes comes loose. I have never had any problems, since I run a fan & heatsink on the motor, and also used red thread-locker on the endbell.
My Dad's E-Revo runs great with the setup I mentioned above, and has never shown any signs of anything bad or something going wrong, but I did reset all of the settings to their defaults just to make sure everything remains fine, since I have heard that 0° of timing and too much punch-control can damage the motor and/or ESC. Anyway, thank you for your help! |

I have the truck geared for 38mph, which my Dad thinks is perfect for him, and there has never been a single problem with the truck or electronics. He drives hard and fast just like me, and we commonly run 5 or 6 charges through the trucks without many breaks. The truck runs and performs great, so the KD motors can't be that bad. I also run the same setup in a 1/8 buggy, except the motor is a KD36-74-2800kV (XL), and it has performed flawlessly as well. |

The KD motors are less crap in lighter weight vehicles, with reasonable gearing, they really dont like heavier stuff or higher voltage- ~40mph and 4s is about perfect, ~40mph and 5s kills the 9XL ( and 13lbs on top ... ).

Trust me I hv used feigao n even 4poles neumotors, medusa, castle n tekin
2 pole motors are a big diff compared to 4 poles. Price is a huge diff. If kd really works. All the big brands would hv died. Mayb u hv luck with it but a good motor need a good bearing n magnets. What I meant by racing, is during racing we push the car n motor to the max n that's the time u can tell what's good n wats not. But since hobbywing came out with their 4pole motors it cheap n good! Look man, I am also running CC/Neu, Tekin, Fiego, and other motors in other various vehicles, so I know the difference between 2-pole and 4-pole motors, I am just saying that the KD motors, used properly and in the right applications, are just fine...I don't know why you are getting so defensive just because I have had good luck with, and like KD motors. They are good motors, so deal with it.
And trust me, when my Dad and I bash, there are times that the bashing session is identical to race conditions, and we have even raced under *real* race conditions on *real* race tracks. I like KD motors, you obviously don't, and that's just fine...we are all allowed to have our own opinions, but don't bash me, my Dad, or our driving styles in an effort to show that you dislike KD motors. I know you didn't directly bash us, but you did do it indirectly, and that's not cool...just say you don't like KD motors and leave it at that, don't insinuate that I don't know anything, or what a real/good motor is like or that I don't know the difference between 2-pole, 4-pole, or higher-pole motors, or anything else for that matter. I have been in this hobby for almost 28 years, so I am very experienced. Anyway, I am sorry to rant, but it just sounds like you are bashing me for no reason, and/or reasons that aren't true. I like KD motors, you don't, let's just leave it at that. |
Err bro I started this thread to help ppl not bash ppl up. I m sorry if u felt offenced but that's not wat I meant.
N I din say I dun like kd motor. Cool man. |
