Brushless Stampede ???
Well guys, I'm new to this forum. A member on RCU suggested I sign up here.
I have a widened, lenghtened, brushless Stampede and I am looking to upgrade systems. Right now I'm running the reman Novak SS 5800 on GP3300 7 cell packs. This is my first brushless system and I like the torque of it, but I am looking for more speed now (maybe a little bit more torque too:027:) I was thinking about a Sphere/Neo combo, but a guy on RCU suggested a Lehner 5300 and BK 7020 ESC. He said this would stomp a Sphere or GTB setup. What do you guys suggest for me? here's a few pics if any of you are interested in my truck http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/898/1417/35102.jpg http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/898/1417/35103.jpg http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/898/1417/35104.jpg |
The 5300 or 4200 would be a great choice. I would go with the MGM 80 though. It has a good BEC built in for you. I just put a 4200/MGM 80 combo in my FLM Rusty.

That is a clean looking pede. Welcome to the forum as well.
You could run a lower kv motor with more voltage on it for more torque and runtime. I am still expertmenting with mine so not exactly sure what to tell you to run. I have seen a few guys run a 12s on 12cells. |
Would the Lehner 5300 have the same torque as the SS5800 with the same battery (8.4v) and same gearing? How much faster would it be?
Thanks for the suggestion on the MGM 80 ESC. I will check it out. I just want a system that will give me at least the same torque with more speed on the same batteries. I will probably add more cells to it later on though. |
I was going to go with the Novak but decided to get the 4200 instead. The 5300 should give you more torque and speed over the Novak.
I decided on the 4200 for more runtime and a bit less speed. |
What about the Feigao 8s, Feigao 6s, and the Lehner XL5000 motors? How would they compare? Will the MGM 80 handle these also?
I'm sorry for all the newb questions, but I just know nothing about sensorless brushless setups. And I'm just trying to figure out what combo would work best for me. I would like to have decent runtimes, but thats not really my priority. |
The xl5000 would require a better esc than the 8012. It is a amp hugery little motor.

Well, after doing a little more research and using the search button on here, I think I've decided on either the Lehner 5300 or the Feigao 380C-6L. I've heard that both of these motors work good on 6-8 cells. I think thats what I'm looking for. I want speeds of at least 40mph and I think either of these motors can do it.
Are there any other motors I should consider before I decide to order one? I also think I'm gonna go with the MGM Compro 80 ESC too. Any other suggestions on that? |
sounds good to me. i would go for the feigao. you will need some 3.5mm bullet connectors as well.
|
If money is not the issue, I would go with the lehner 5300 if I were you. The lehner is higher quality, but the feigao will offer about the same amount of power otherwise.
|
I just bought a Lehner basic 5300 motor and a Mtroniks Genesis Pro ESC.
I can't wait for it to get here.:027: |
Here is a pic of my truck with the old setup if anybody wants to see it.

Is that a t-maxx body on there? What extended chassis are you using. Nice video by the way.
|
Another question...Why did you decide to go with the 5300 over the 380 6l or others?
|
Yea its a T-maxx sized body. Its the prepainted Atomik F-350 SD body. I extended the stock chassis 1.25in.
It was a toss up between the different motors because I don't know much about any of them. I didn't like the fact that the 380 6L is a small motor. Somebody also said it was comparable to the GTB 5.5 system, and I'm looking for more power then that. I hope the Lehner 5300 will be:024: Also, I just found a pretty good deal on the setup so I went ahead and bought it. |
