Questions about XMODS (electronics & dying parts)...

Ok, I got a new XMODS Evolution Car, and am going to replace the electronics with a Spektrum SR3500 Rx, Novak Spy Micro ESC, and LiPo batteries. It already has a Stage-2 Motor which is pretty fast, but I might see if I can find a brushless system that will fit. Anyway, my biggest question is what to do about the steering...you can't just stick a standard micro-servo in there because XMODS aren't setup that way, so I was thinking about using an old micro-servo to power the servo-motor built into the car...

[1] If I take the wires off of the motor inside the servo, and connect them to the servo-motor in the XMODS, will it work correctly?

[2] Also, does anyone know if you can dye the parts on the XMODS? I just don't like the bright green suspension arms and light & medium gray chassis, and would love to dye everything black.

not sure on the xmods but atleast on the kyosho mini-z's people will take the logic board from a micro servo and hook up the + and - to the servo motor and then the three remaining wires (to the servo POT) to the POT on the mini-z itself.

Ok, thank you...the XMODS has an external pot on its board as well, so I may have to switch the 3 pot wires along with the motor [+] & [-]. Again, thanks.

Ok, so the pot on the XMODS board is not like a standard pot, or even the pot on a Mini-Z board, so I have another idea...

...since I can't just unhook the wires from the micro-servo motor and hook them to the servo-motor in the XMODS, because that takes the pot out of the loop, I thought I could keep the wires attached to the motor in the micro-servo, and then just run parallel wires to the servo in the XMODS...that powers the servo-motor in the XMODS, and keeps the pot in the micro-servo in the loop.

Do you think this will work?

What is different about the pot on the xmods? Your idea may work i have my doubts as to how effective it may be, not to mention you'll be drawing more current to feed two servo motors. If worst comes to worst, just shoehorn a micro servo in place of the stock garbage HPI electronics, lol.

I'v done this just for kicks, but its a PIA...

the 3 wires off to the left side of the board connect directly to the POT, take the board from a micro servo, take the pot and motor off, and wire the xmods ones in.

The XMODS are not made by HPI, they are made by Radio Shack...also, they do not have standard electronics, or anything resembling a standard steering servo...it's just a small motor controlled by the main circuit board that controls everything else. Also, the hobby electronics I am putting in would be more than enough to power 2 servos.

I am going to try this and see how it works...I will let you know!

That's exactly what i said to do.. lol. And XMODS are MFG'd or atleast were by HPI. Do a little research. They had a Subaru Body for the XMODS painted in that Orange/Yellow theme that HPI made for one of their 1/10 sedans too.

I wasn't dissing you in any way, DCastaneda, it was more of a confirmation.
