Could this true ??
I was reading about these bad @ssed Mini cats (RC Boats) at ;
http://www.minicatracingusa.com/index.html And found this during a info search; The water cooled electronic speed control (ESC) is programmable for either Nickel Metal Hydride or Lithium Polymer batteries and has preset voltage cutoffs to protect your valuable batteries from over discharging. The ESC is perfectly matched with the powerful 280 size inrunner motor. Recommended batteries are: 8 cell 2/3A 1200-1500mAh NiMh in stick or hump style or 3S 11.v 1500mAh Lipo battery. You should use a 20-25C discharge pack. DO NOT USE 30C BECAUSE it produces an initial SURGE that will damage or blow out the ESC! The amount of AMPS produced is not the issue. You can use any mAh rating you want. Check our Links section for Vision Hobbies. They sell excellent Lithium Polymer packs at reasonable prices! What kind of ESC has probs with a 30C pack ?? |
The ESC should only take the amperage it needs so I have a hard time believing this. Not to mention with the arbitrary C ratings of lipos how would you know for sure?
|
Bogus. Could run 500C packs and not know the difference. Only a brushed (gasp) motor might have lifespan issues.
MaxPads will be the first to offer the 500C packs, of course! |
Run shite batteries and blow the batteries not the esc! These guys are geniuseses:yes:
|
So I could use a 25C 8000 pack but not a 30C 5000 pack? Seems absolutely ridiculous to me.
I bet Vision Hobbies doesn't sell any 30C packs... :whistle: |

I think the C rating has become a bit of a marketing gimmick to be honest. Similar the whole clock speed facade with processors, its only a part of the whole story. Stores sell 4000mah 25C packs for as much or more than they sell 5000mah 20C packs; preying on the ignorant pretty much.

I think the air/boat guys do use appropriate discharge rates cause they can smoke the ESC with too high A rates.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1255378 (not a good example, too lazy to search) But I guess you can go with a smaller prop if the lipos maintain higher voltage and discharge. |
