question about stripped threads
I didn't know exactly what forum to ask this, so I guess I'll ask here.
What do you guys do when you've stripped the threading on an aluminum hole? I know I can jb weld the hole, and then re-tap and re-thread.... but is there an alternative that does not require JB? |
Going a size bigger?
That's what I do on the plastic arms, given, it's plastic so it's easier... Go to M4 if it's an M3, if you can? |
Use a helicoil.

What part is this? Can you just drill through and use a locknut on the other end? If it's a bulkhead or a diff mount etc. there is probably enough material to go a size bigger as was suggested.
|
I've had success using helicoils. Helicoil repair is stronger than the orig threaded hole so there's never any question/doubts about it again.
|
No I can't use a lock nut on it... its a part that the screw can not go fully through. Thanks for the helicoil suggestion. It seems to be exactly what I need.
