The question I'm asking is "how do I wire it?".

Help me make this surgery a success!
Thanks,
Zack

Send it to me :) I do lipo repairs

Your lucky it's an outside cell.

I would un-stick the bad cell first. use a warm to hot butter knife slowly cutting foam tape between the cells. once apart stick some paper between cell to keep them from sticking again.

Cut off dean wire lead(looks like the positive) at bad lipo. cut other tab of the bad cell, solder dean wire back on the positive side of the 3 cell pack.

This way your not fighting pools of solder cooling on you when your trying to unfold cell tabs.

The last time I did this the bad cell started getting hot after removing one of the tabs so I had to move quickly to finish the amputation.

You will need a 3S balance tab.

Or it may be fine. Hows it balance? Any swelling, smoking, yellow discharge or shooting flames?

Thanx BB16 but I think I want to tackle this one.

Bruce: I should have clarified. I tried everything within my power to save the other cell. It was puffing, leaking, not balancing with the other cells which were all 4.22 it was staying at 3.75V.

Also. I already seperated them. You can see in almost every picture where it goes from 4 cells to 3 cells.

So Mrchrash, all your saying is that I need to move the negative wire as the pic shows and solder up a 3s balance tab... Wait let me look at the pcb one more time.

Here is what I'm looking at:

Guys, I'm not sure how this correspondes to Mrcrashes picture.

bruce750i 06.22.2010 11:45 AM

Sure, I was kidding it clearly is beyond saving.

Opps Kcaz25 I missed that. So it's your negative side then.

They are the same but yours looks like a four cell in that picture.

Cool and what about the balance tabs. I still have four of those negative wires.

Do I take off the one under your red X, balance wire that is?

Bondonutz 06.22.2010 01:33 PM

Volt meter will help with any guess work as to what wire goes where.

On the bottom is a 4S that you had. The blue cell is the one you took out. So you need to re arrange the wires like in the pic on top. You can either cut, grind away the part of the PCB that is not needed. And you can either use a new 3S balance tab or cut away the part of your 4S tab to transform it to a 3S tab. It won't be a real 3S tab but it will still hook up to your charger with no problems. I don't think I need to say this but I'll do it anyway, whatever you cut, grind or whatever, don't cut too deep, don't grind too far and most important, don't short anything. Don't do anything if you're in a hurry, you have to take your time and be aware of where your metal tools are and where you put them.

What I mentioned above is stuff I did myself to transform two sets of 4S packs to 3S ones.

You wont even need to change the balance plug or cut it, just remove that last black balance wire as per the picture. The charger will see a 3s pack when its plugged in- the plastic housing is just a plastic housing, it plays no part in the electrical side of things- if it were a cell in the middle of the pack, then you'd need to get a new balance plug for the pack.. its merely cosmetics in this instance

Ok here is a question if you have a 6s and one cell is not charging and there was no puffing or smoke how can i tell which cell is the one that is damaged what inspection? A voltmeter?

nitrostarter 06.22.2010 05:57 PM

You can test each cell individually with the voltmeter to see which voltage is lower than the others.

swiftneed 06.22.2010 06:04 PM

OK I guess simple enough each wire like testing fuses
