Which will burn?

I had a frien who put a Novak 6.5 motor with a drift master 40amp in a Sct 4x4 n burnt the esc n I think damaged it damaged the motor too.

I know the esc will be damaged but ever heard of the motor damaged too?

Any advise? Thx

Probably locked the rotor and didn't shut it down right away.

The esc is sensorless but the motor is sensored could it be the cause it burnt?

What voltage was he running? 40 amps seems way too small for 4wd use.

7.4v.

Sensored motor wont matter, if you dont use the sensor harness it just becomes a sensorless motor ( assuming the esc works with a sensorless motor, which in this case it does ).

Perhaps the motor was bad (or close to it) to begin with?

Then y both the esc n motor burnt?

Let me grab my crystal ball....

Could be any number of reasons- could be that the driveline got jammed and the motor stalled, pulling massive current that fried the windings and the esc at the same time- are you sure the motor is dead, has he tried it with another esc?

Could be that the motor was just too much for the esc and cooked it, the motor may be fine. Without testing it on another esc or inspecting it for blackend windings/ horrible burnt smell ( like a cigarette ashtray ) its impossible to say for sure...

Thx I was trying to help my friend as he sold a motor to this guy n he burnt it n return back to my friend n asked for a refund.

Ah, the plot thickens.....

Well, if your friend cant prove it was okay before he sold it, then he may have issues. If however te guy he sold it to used it with a 40amp esc, then I'd say it was user error by him. The hvmaxx motor is for use with the hvmaxx esc, or a similar spec'd esc- mmpro for example which is rated for about 80-100amps. Making the buyer realise this will be fun though....
