Losi SCTen-T (SCTT) Carbon Electric Short-Course Conversion.

ok, so this one really is going to have a carbon chassis. i have already started biulding it. also going to have carbon shock towers.

anyway, i picked up a Losi Ten T with the RCM conversion already on it but pretty much starting over since i am making it into a SCT.

i will post some pics very soon.

I'm a big fan of your builds. I'm looking forward to this one.

Ryu James 07.17.2010 03:00 AM

thanks dude. i am almost done with the CAD drawing for the extended chassis. but look what was just posted on the RCtech forums:

"Watching via live r/c the hot rod hobbies shootout this weekend. Mike Truhe has TQ after 2 qual rds with a prototype Losi 4wd SC!! most likely based off the ten-t platform."

i was hoping to make a few carbon chassis conversion kits for the ten t but if losi already has a SCT coming out....oh well.

I want one! I already thought to myself, "sure wish I could buy a carbon fiber chassis like James builds" but wasn't going to hassle you with asking you to make one.

Maybe more RCM members will want one?

I still would like one. Maybe you could leave the center diff holes for me to cut and I can go with the Ten-T center diff.

Great news about Losi though. It will make this all better!

i am actually designing two different chassis'. one will use the stock ten t center diff and use a ten t rear cvd in place of the front to get the added length. the other chassis version will make use of a 1/8 center diff and drive line, most likely the losi 8ight parts to keep things within the same brand. this will allow more options for use of tekno traktion drive, mod1 gearing, etc.

it is taking me a while to design these this time cuz i am teaching myself CAD as i go. before i would make a chassis by hand with my dremel tool and then pay a guy to measure and draw it in solidworks.

also, the carbon i have now is formed with the kickup angle so it will be much stronger than previous chassis' that i had heated and bent. i am very excited to get these done.

i will definitely post pics as progress is made.

losi SCT prototype: one from Ryu James, one from Losi

sorry this build has been going so slow but learning CAD is taking me longer than i though....mostly because its hard to find the time. so thursday night i sat down and busted out a prototype in like 5 hours. i just got my conversion parts yesterday so i should be able to finish the build this week for sure. here is the chassis plate. i extended it 1.25" to give it a wheelbase of 13" which is within roar specs and about the length of most SCTs. also, chassis plate is 6.75" wide. i will use tekno mudguards and this is the average width of most SCT chassis' out there. even with the chassis being 3" wider than stock and 1.25" longer it still weighs 12 grams less. and this is before i have drilled any of the mounting holes, etc. it will probabaly end up being about 30 grams less than the stock chassis. see the pics!

but, also wanted to show everyone this. it looks losi had Mike Truhe out driving the SCT 4wd prototype. it is definitely based on the Ten-T as you can see in the pics that is the Ten-T chassis for sure. cant wait to see their finished product. i am still going ahead with my conversion though as i will be able to have mech. brakes and i am doubtful that Losi will make their SCT with mech brakes. click link below for pics and article.

Where to you get the carbon fiber with the kickup in it? Also if you plan on making more than one I am interested.

marzac2 07.24.2010 05:23 PM

Looks great James. Definitely your cleanest looking chassis yet. It's gonna own. Your doing Tekno Motor plates right? I just put them on my stock conversion and it is a tank now. I can adjust mesh and everything stays PUT! Keep us posted on your progress.

thanks guys. yes, i got all my tekno parts yesterday so i will be using tekno plates and mount. i am heading home to work on it now. i should have everything mounted up tonight. however, i am still waiting on my battery tray and rear CVD in the mail. anyway, i will post pics in the next couple days.

i am planning to make a few to be available to those who want one but i wanted to finish one completely first so that i can be upfront about what all would be involved in terms of parts/cost to complete the conversion. i will post info as soon as i know.

Looks good so far, can't wait to see the finished conversion.
But how did you get the kickup into the chassis plate?

where is that quote from? maybe i should send him the scraps of bent carbon i have? maybe then he will "bend" his opinion.
