Mid motor Rustler VXL
 
I have been meaning to do this for a while, since moving to lipo, the 3s I have is very powerful and not very heavy (I was running 9cell NIMH). This has upset the ballance a bit and turned it into a complete wheelie machine. In order to combat this I have spent a total of 6 hours and an old chassis, I didnt want to butcher my good one, turning the transmission around.

The aluminium gearbox case, like many of them, can have the wishbone/arm pickup points fitted to either side. This is essential to keep the toe in and anti-squat/caster on the rear arms.

had to trim a few places here to get the gearbox to sit flat in the chassis

with the rear of the chassis cut away it was very flexible, this brace screws to the chassis and the back of the gearbox, then the gearbox to the chassis again. The result is actually stiffer than the stock setup.

Looks nice. I did something similar a while ago by making my own aluminum chassis and I was amazed how well the rustler handled (all 4 wheels on the ground!). Your delrin rear shock/wheelie bar brace looks very solid - nice work. Some people who have done this have not taken the time to get that shock tower mounted solidly.

Looks great! And judging from the vid, it handles a lot better than stock.

Nylon is PA, polyamide, while Delrin is a brand name for POM, or polyacetal.:whistle:

Part of that is the physics of the motor, it's running in reverse to the normal direction. In normal (rear position) the rotation of the rotor is torquing the motor can and tranny down, causing wheelies. The same thing is happening when you tap the brakes or goose the throttle to adjust for a landing in mid-air. In candymans setup the motor can and tranny is twisting down as well, But due to reversed wires and position the torque is pushing down on the front, not the rear. This is the reason why the X-factory X-6/60 cars have a 4 gear transmission, to bring back the proper rotation to control jumps and help plant the rear for max traction
