Mid motor Rustler VXL
I have been meaning to do this for a while, since moving to lipo, the 3s I have is very powerful and not very heavy (I was running 9cell NIMH). This has upset the ballance a bit and turned it into a complete wheelie machine. In order to combat this I have spent a total of 6 hours and an old chassis, I didnt want to butcher my good one, turning the transmission around.
The aluminium gearbox case, like many of them, can have the wishbone/arm pickup points fitted to either side. This is essential to keep the toe in and anti-squat/caster on the rear arms. http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/rustlerv...0/DSC09228.JPG http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/rustlerv...0/DSC09229.JPG had to trim a few places here to get the gearbox to sit flat in the chassis http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/rustlerv...0/DSC09230.JPG with the rear of the chassis cut away it was very flexible, this brace screws to the chassis and the back of the gearbox, then the gearbox to the chassis again. The result is actually stiffer than the stock setup. http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/rustlerv...0/DSC09231.JPG Rear brace for the shock tower and wheelie bar. The black plastic im using is delrin, a tough nylon. http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/rustlerv...0/DSC09232.JPG http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/rustlerv...0/DSC09233.JPG made to measure for my Rhino 3s 4000mah pack from hobbycrown :D http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/rustlerv...0/DSC09234.JPG all together http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/rustlerv...0/DSC09236.JPG |
had to make another piece to attach to the rear brace and then to the bottom of the wheelie bar

Looks nice. I did something similar a while ago by making my own aluminum chassis and I was amazed how well the rustler handled (all 4 wheels on the ground!). Your delrin rear shock/wheelie bar brace looks very solid - nice work. Some people who have done this have not taken the time to get that shock tower mounted solidly.

Indeed, seen it done a few times, but this is definately the best thought out & executed concept by far

Very nice job C-Man2 !
If it was for the Shiny Aluminum it would look 100% factory. |
Nice work man. I see that a lot of thought went into this project.

Very clean job, nice! So, essentially what you have now is an e-Jato?

Looks great! And judging from the vid, it handles a lot better than stock.
And just to nitpick: Quote:
