Need help with Castle Link installation

Guys, need some help here... installing Castle Link software.
OS = Windows 7.
Previous version 3.254 was uninstalled & remaining directory deleted.
Attempting to install 3.26.0 (current version), Run as Administrator.
Upon completion installation, keep getting "Newer version of Castle Link available".
Program keeps reverting back to 3.254
Have I missed anything?

(this has been happening since version 3.255)

Weird.. I use 7 x64, and dont have to run as admin, jusst double click and go..

As far as message saying that a newer version is available, thats just the app telling you your firmware can be updated, I think..

Latest version running fine for me on W7 home premium

When installed I ran as Admin

It will remove the old version during the install, you dont need to do it manually

Cheers

It runs. Administrator or not, remove folder or not... No problems.

But the problem is .. program keeps reverting back to version 3.254 automatically by itself.

Any ideas why this happen ?

The icon on desktop says it's 3.26.0, but in the About window, it says 3.254.
I tried to reinstall with Repair and Modify option, but still same situation.
I tried to uninstall and install again, still the same happens.

Is your computer overclocked?

Even if it was it shouldnt make a difference unless it wasnt a stable oc..

Sorry Im grasping here..

No it is not overclocked. It's a normal notebook, running 32-bit Windows 7.

Frost - -I just spoke with the engineers -- and this is what Jon suggested:

I have seen something like this twice before: The un-install did not go smoothly (whether they knew it or not) and the database did not get replaced (which holds all of the settings / data / and current version number string). Once this happened, there was a bunch of registry crap that got messed up as well.

Easy way to fix it - Uninstall all old versions - Go to C:\Program Files\Castle Creations\ and remove the whole Castle Link directory - Now reinstall, but do it in a different location, such as C:\Program Files\Castle Creations\Castle Link2\, this basically bypasses any badness in the registry.

If that does not take care of it, we can work with him to figure out what exactly is happening.

Let me know if that helps!

Pdelcast, thank you so much for the advice. It works now :yipi:

Prior to that, I actually tried to remove all Castle-Link entries in Windows registry, including deletion of the oem29.inf, cygf32.sys, cyglib.sys, etc but somehow it didn't work. There seem to be some duplicate copies of the driver messed up somewhere in the registry database / backup, but access is denied.

So I decided to install on a different directory instead, and then it works.

I hope the engineers can solve this problem in the next Castle-Link release (and if possible clear up the previous mess left over in the registry).

Thanks.
