I has got Kidney stones, owwwww.....
 

Woke up yesterday morning and my left flank was aching like a bitch, so managed to go back to sleep for a few hours and when I woke up the pain was gone. I shrugged it off.

I woke up this morning and.... I know how John Hurt must have felt ( dont make me explain that one ), only down in my left flank again. I was in so much pain I had tears running down my face, couldnt make the pain stop no matter how I stood, laid, folded myself up etc. Jumped on the internet and has a look at the NHS website for symptoms- thought it was appendicitis but it was the wrong side of my body ( d'oh ). Bit more of a search and it pretty much looked like kidney stones was the likely cause of the pain- it was slowly working its way towards my bladder from the kidney ( the pain is far from localised though, it spreads out alot ). Made an appointment with to see my GP 30 minutes later, took a urine sample = high concentration of blood present > very likely kidneystones. Prescribed me some painkillers and told me to make an appointment with the radiology department to get a scan/ x-ray in a few days time hopefully.

The pain has stopped for now pretty much, but this has got to be the most horrible, painful experience I've ever had-I know a few people who've had them recently too so I know it could get aloot worse & may need an operation if the stone Im passing is just a small piece of a much larger stone; I gunna try and score me some super strong painkillers from those people if they have any left over, though if any of you guys have got any morphine shots/ viles hangin; around I'll take those too please...:yes:

I watched my old man be hospitalized several times when I was in high school for those. Gotta be one of the most painful things a guy has to endure. Watching my old man cry made me a dedicated daily water drinker....

Ouch, not much you can do at this point. Unless you require surgery, which I am sure they allot a certain amount of time for it to pas before scheduling.

I remember when my dad had one pass. Wow, not a hole lot to say there, just use your imagination.

Increase your juice intake. Cranberry, Pomegranate, Orange, Acai. Get your urine's acidity up. It will help break down some of the calcification. That and drink lots of h2o. Almost till you pee clear.

I hope you fell better, and there are no more in the future.

Neil, I found a remedy that worked for me. I used real lemon juice and olive oil, equal parts about 2 to 3 ounces each. It's nasty and hard to keep down, but took care of mine in 24 hours

Kidney stones is something i wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy, Hope it goes away soon

OUch heard there even painful for woman put to have to piss out a rock I dont know hope it goes easy man couple a shots of scotch and you fall asleep easy makes everythin numb LOL ok 3/4 of a 30 year old bottle I had go easy

Hey Neil sorry to hear about your painful experience. Never had any of those myself, but have had friends who have gone through the same thing. Most of the advice you have received is good stuff. Lots of water, cranberry juice, and reduce your calcium intake. Do you use allot of antacids? There is an easier way to deal with stones nowa days though. If it does not get better quickly ask your doctor about having an ultrasonic procedure. They discovered that kidney stones can be polverized with ultrasonic waves. It is painless and fairly simple and straight forward. Good luck with your resolution, and stay away from the drugs man. Don't get yourself involved in that trainwreck. We enjoy having your wit in here, and would like to keep it that way.

All better now, I think- I had issues peeing more than a dribble last night, but then it must have popped out & I can pee like a horse again :mdr:

There are a number of procedures for removing the stones depending on how large they are- my friend had the lazer & drugs treatments to break them up and dissolve them, she said it felt like having a red hot poker stuck inside you. I'll see how it goes but it looks like I just had the one little grain of rice type stone- will be modifying my diet though for sure.

Glad you feel better Neil. I skimmed over most of this thread as I'm one of those people that can't watch doctor shows on tv. I give thanks that i'm reasonably healthy and pray that I don't get sick.

I had a workmate (elderly fella) tell me about his mates operation to piss better (not from stones but age related), I said 'NNNOOOOO' but he just forged on and told me all about it. I don't know if he just ignored how pale I was or was enjoying how pale I was.:no: Glad your all good.

I'd rather drink turpentine and piss on a brush fire than pass a kidney stone. i had a few small ones about 10 years ago that had me doubled over slugging a half a gallon of Vat69 for an entire weekend before they passed. i hope you feel better Neil.

Had an episode with them about 5yrs ago. I was hospitalized and heavily medicated, but it never passed - I had to pee through a screened funnel everytime I went so Dr could see what was passing. Trouble was nothing was. It was weird, I would be fine one min and then it seemed like something would shift and the pain was back.

I underwent something called shock wave lithotripsy. I woke up several hours later in a recovery room with a nurse telling me to not be afraid of seeing blood in my urine. I felt like i had been badly beaten on my back around the kidney area with a baseball bat, I hurt for days. I peed blood and gravel for over a week. It was better than surgery, but not something I'd want to do again.

My stones were ordinary calcium based stones and other than being told to drink a lot more water, I've made no changes and fortunately have had no further episodes.

Glad you're better. Stones are dangerous and can lead to permanent kidney damage quickly if a kidney swells due to blockage of urine. Def not a laughing matter or something to be taken lightly!
