How lucky it must be to bash here...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwyia...eature=related

You know... I've NEVER EVER driven my trucks at a place like this, because they don't exist where I live. Sure, I could drive 90min to the LargescaleRC track, but then I'd be subjected to people watching, me blabbing, etc. I wouldn't be able to really get a feel for anything, and the whole time be scrutenized under everyone's breath for my driving. But I've never had the chance to drive on a course like this EVER, and I bet I never will. I don't think it could get any more fun than this!? I've seen some awesome bash spots, and all of them make me green with envy. Having nice trucks like mine, only to drive them around the yard and up a 14" skateboard ramp doesn't cut it.

I swear, I think I'm gonna have some dirt dumped in my back yard just to be able to fart around and jump stuff. Not much. Like one big pile that I launch from, then land in an area that is about 4ft off the ground, or as high as the top of the jump spot anyway. I can land jumps like this. I just don't have the opportunity to do it often, or get nearly the enjoyment out of the hobby as some of you guys do.

I think you all should feel very blessed to have the ability to bash at places like this, because many many many of us don't have that opportunity.

Check out this guy's video. It's pretty impressive at times.

The jump he does at 2:39 is very impressive. I'd have to imagine that he probably couldn't see all that well from where he was standing, and his ariel control is really good.

It's amazing how much air you can get from a small jump!!! Looks like the snow mound is only about 3-4ft high, but it's the angle that makes it all happen. I'd like a jump like that, but sorta like what BRO had going one, where he jumps from a lower level to the upper level so that you don't have to have your truck fall 12ft to the ground.

I used to have an incredible bash spot, and then the selfious rich jerk who owns the property that he does NOTHING with, gated it off earlier this year.

Honestly man, if you live 90min from LargescaleRC you have zero right to complain about not having a good bash spot.
Troy, Scott and especially Bob are some cool guys, and their tracks are second to none. Dont let your insecurities about running with strangers deter you from at least trying it out. Everyone I have ever met in the hobby has been pretty cool. They are having the monthly fun run at LargescaleRC on Sept. 25. I will be there, if you wanna make the trip. With me around you wont have to worry about anyone noticing your bad driving

Seriously.....stop complaining about it untill you go ask the guy if you can bash there. Or at least walk around the gate lol. I dont know about Montana, but here in washington if there is not a "no tresspassing" sign every 80 feet around the perimeter of the property then there is not much they can do if they find out you have been in there. But seriously just go ask the dude, if he tells you to go pound sand then you can come back here and vent for the 3rd time lol.

I haven't run my RC's at all this year due to no good bash spots. The city started chasing rc'ers out of local parks, and the ACOE shut down the local track before it was even built.

Really need to find somewhere to run them. (My yard is a postage stamp) Maybe I should sell them all and switch to street cars & parking lots.

Freezebyte 09.01.2010 06:51 PM

Damn, what city are you in? Remind me never to move there

Take of RC flying?

Thanks Obeast! I went to high school with Troy & Scott... and they are great guys, no question. I grew up in Monticello, IN...

I'm not blasting your reply AT ALL.. but I wanted to give an example of how being in that situation makes me feel. Granted, it sounds like I'm over thinking it, and perhaps I am to a small degree. But just for kicks... here it goes....

Example: I've been a professional musician for a long time. I sing, play guitar, drums, whatever. I play live all the time and in front of hundereds of people staring at me. I have zero problems with this. Now... let's say for instance you "play around with guitar" enough to know a few chords, and let's say you're an "average" singer. Even better, you have expensive taste. So, despite not being a very good guitar player that doesn't stop you from wanting nice things. So you happen to have a $1200 guitar that your not good at playing. So, wow's about I invite you and your expensive guitar up on stage to just jam with us???? "Come on man! It's ok! It's FUN! No one cares bro. Just go with it and do the best you can." Whether it's in front of 5 people or 5,000... the point is the same. Actually, it's even worse if it's in front of five people. I'd rather play for a lot of people then I would ONE person sitting in front of me.

So yeah.. you might say that you'd laff it up, and suck all over the place and that you don't care... but really.... how much "fun" would that be really? Wouldn't it be so much more fun if you were able to actually get thru the song or nail it? Now, maybe us band dudes would giggle a bit, but we wouldn't judge you because we know the deal. But that wouldn't necc make YOU feel any better.

Personally... I do not enjoy showing those who are strong at something, just how BAD I am at doing the same thing. Golf is the main one. I could be a good golfer if A. I cared about golf and B. Took the time to really learn. So, when I get invited to golf, which is often, I don't go. Period. Because I've learned that even good golfers thing they aren't very good. And it's NO FUN being literally RANCID around people who are not.

I know that driving on a track is difficult if you've never done it. My friend has bashed for a long time and can drive well. But when he recently went to a real track for the first time to drive, he was shocked at just how rotten he was at it. So, to have guys that I personally know standing around watching me drive my $1000+ trucks around and doing badly... doesn't sound like fun at all.

Now... let me drive on that track over and over and over until I can get used to all the jumps, and how the truck reacts, and dial in my setup, and basically get a feel for it... and it would be a different ball game.

I KNOW that Troy & Scott pretty much expect a guy who's never driven on a track to do all that great, and they would be the only guys I would do that in front of because I know them. But until I felt more comfortable driving on a track, I sorta feel like staying away from them. You can't learn unless you do it, I realize that. But it's not like it's "just down the road". It's a three hour round trip!!! It would be different if they were across town, that's for sure. I swear I will make it up to that track, and I'll likely drive on it, and I'll likely be horrible. And perhaps I will go with you?? I don't really like the idea of driving my truck around not knowing what I'm doing, because aren't there a bunch of other dudes driving around too?? I'd have to worry about staying out of the way just as much as my own driving skills! It would RULE if there were like four guys there or something. I don't know a lot about tracks and when then open up for the public. You can't just show up, pay, and drive can you? That would rule! I know some tracks have "open" night, but it's not all the time.

Thanks!
Jason

I'd be bummed too if I were Freeze. I don't think we need to resort to "telling him to shut up about it". I'd be severely bummed too!!!!!! Granted... maybe he should ask, or sneak in... but I don't think it's such a big deal to read or skip thru his "complaint" about it. The man is in mourning!! Wouldn't you be?? Look at that place!!!!! I'd be WEEPING over loosing that site!!!!

With all due respect, If there isn't a trophy or money involved, It's not worth the trip to break parts. My gas money is used for work and maybe shopping for necessities. In this economy, If you can't afford it, 90 minutes is too far to go for fun

Thats really sad to hear honestly

jpoprock 09.02.2010 04:30 PM

LOL. We'll it's not like I wouldn't drive 90min to have some fun (and probl break something too). But it's not like it's a skip across town either. All it will do is probably make me crazy cuz there is nothing CLOSE by! Besides, I can drive 10min to get laughed and break stuff!

Honestly, I'm overdue to pay Scott a visit... if not to just see what he's into over there and to be supportive.

Obeast44 09.02.2010 04:42 PM

I understand where your coming from, but it still seems to me like you are worrying too much about something that "could" happen. I would be willing to bet you there'd be at least 5 other guys there that are worse at driving on a track then you (my self included). Honestly, even if someone is super fast on the track and runs around degrading everyone how slow they are, hes still just driving an RC car. Its not like hes driving an F1 car making millions and signing autographs etc etc. If by chance there is a guy there like that, trust me I would be more than happy to let him/her know how much of a D-bag they are being.
The fact that you are a musician could explain the feelings of what essentially is "stage fright". Just remember this, being perfect and performing well for a crowd of spectators in your chosen profession is one thing, and I can admire you for wanting to get it right. But these are RC cars, a hobby, they should be fun and provide a sense of relief and relaxation. So what if a guy is better at it than you, its just a hobby.
I used to run in to the same type of circumstances playing paintball. I played for years and was an above average player (at least I like to think so) I had decent equipment Angels, Rev-Is, Custom halfblock cockers, things like that. Almost everytime I went youd have a few guys that were always calling someone a "noob" because they didnt have the fancy smancy ulltra high end marker of OMGWTFBBQDOOM. The new guy would be asking questions about how to play, where he should go, what he/she should do in certain situations and have a genuine willingness to learn the game. By days end the "new guy" would be getting picked on the pickup games before these so called "pros". I guess what I am saying is this. If you want to learn how to do something and you have the tools to do it, its totally up to you to do the work. Whats that saying and im probably gettin it wrong here. Its better to have tried and failed, than to have never tried at all.
They do have 4 tracks to run on for varying degrees of skill lvls, a competition offroad track, an Oval/figure 8 track, an extreme track, and a flat road course track. Its the perfect place to learn to run on a race track. You could start on the oval and get used to it, once you feel comfortable just jump over to the flat road course and practice turning left and right. Once ya felt a little more comfortable you could get on the extreme track and pactice jump approach and landings. Then you could hit the Off road competition style track and put everything together.
They might be willing to let ya come up during the week and get track time, all ya gotta do is ask. They've always been friendly to me when I was around, so I am sure they'd try and accomodate you.
Its almost garunteed(sp?) to be a good time, I hope to see you there man. If you do decide to show up, lemme know via PM so I can look out for ya.

EDIT: Where exactly in Indiana do you live? I know of a 1/8 scale track that you could run at almost anytime without worrying about anyone watching you. Its about 1 hr south of Indy though.

georgec 09.02.2010 05:25 PM

One of the main reasons I went to on road racing with my TC5X. Every parking lot could be a race track. With the same chassis I can run TC or VTA, just swap bodies, tires and motor! Large scale tracks are becoming harder to find, mainly because of noise ordinances.

rawfuls 09.02.2010 05:50 PM

One of the reasons why I'm not using anything related to RC is because I'm bored of my street.
Curbs are getting boring now, and so is the little "hump" in the grass that would take it go flying.

But now, it's just driving in a oval, up the street, up the driveway, over the hump, 2nd hump, off the curb, repeat.
