where did you get the nylon from? i want to make a cage for my savage.

Jahay 09.12.2010 06:29 PM

im from the UK so it was an english company... Usually you can find a nylon manufacture on the net...

Emaxx_Quebec 09.12.2010 06:46 PM

That's what I use for bodies post too!!!

magman 09.12.2010 07:15 PM

wow..that rig is huge! Any issues with the extra width affecting anything

Finnster 09.12.2010 07:54 PM

Interesting, gives it a buggy shape. Looks cool. Not a shape I would have thought of, but looks good.

I also ordered some 13mm nylon rod today for my upcoming 1/6 build. I bought it fro metalsonline.com I know McMaster has nylon as well, but it was cheaper to get all the alu and everything from the 1st place.

@magman... i love the wide extreme offset... people said it would kill my steering, and handling... well i dont race, i only bash... if you see my vids, you can see that the truck can take it and still handles really nicely, and still takes a beating.

@finnster... i know what you mean about the shape.. .didnt plan on it, as it just sort of began to appear this way. i am going to be using some nylon sheeting to help wih aero dynamics... this is going to be going 9s, so it needs a little help and i thought this shape wuld be better than a boxy looking cage...? keep me posted on the 1/6 build!

I been looking around for a cage for my lst. Something along these lines that gives a buggy look on a monster.

What's do you mean by 'mainst nylon style cage'? I am not familiar with the term.

Main5t is a guy on ebay thats been selling nylon cages for the savage for a while. I was going to get one from him, but he didnt do one for my style of chassis, so i made my own.

Main5t rings a bell. I think I've watch some of his youtube.

small update to the cage...
still not completed but it is very strong now whlist maintaining a lot of flex... I can now put all my body weight on it...

These are the rear supports. They are very strong but offer a lot of flex to a point

The cage isnt finished yet... should be done in the next few days...

What are you using for the screws? Wood or machine screws or such? One of my concerns on building one of these has been bending or stripping out screws. Curious to your experience thus far.

Also, are you using a heatgun or anything to make the bends first?

kraegar 09.15.2010 04:33 PM

And alternative to screws: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25218

I recently took it out and did some jumps with it - nothing huge, it's still a stock motor in a heavy-ass slash, but nothing broke at all.

Jahay 09.16.2010 07:49 AM

yes i have used a heat gun to help bend and hold the position of the front shock tower supports.
Everything else is hand bent and held in place giving it a natural rigidity.

I used wood, tapping screws. They are extremely strong and i cant see them shredding out at all... But thats why the screws look a little ugly.. but i will be covering the screws, so they are not visable...

just wait and see... its still not finished ;)

kraegar... i have some new screws coming which are flat, black head screws... but they are for something else ;)

Cage Update...

I have spent enough time on the cage now and the final part didnt come out how i would have hoped for...

i thought the cage would have looked better with the nylon sheeting.....

I bought some 2mm nylon sheeting and this stuff is very strong, flexible stuff!!!

i'll let the pics do the talking....

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...9-18161659.jpg

as you can see the cage does not look great at all!!! and it just obscures my ease of accessing the internals of the truck...

so i thought i would remove the large centre cover part, and leave the front shock tower cover on to protect and offer some form of aerodynamic down force at high speeds (if it works)....

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...18163924-1.jpg

I would prefer to run the cage as is but the front shock tower support should offer some form of protection...

Plus i spent quite a bit of time on it, and so i dont want to remove all my wasted work....

I am going to make some rear A arm deflector things out of the nylon, should be robust and protect the rear a little...
