LipoSack Material?
 

What material, specifically, are those LipoSacks made of? And where could I get the raw material?

Since my basement got wrecked, I keep everything in the garage now, and with the varying temperatures, I don't want to keep my lipos in there too. I've been putting them in a Liposack and storing them in a toolbox in my living area. However, I have too many lipos for one sack, and I'd rather not get numerous sacks. So, I want to get some of the sack material and make my own compartmented storage box, complete with charger/powersupply area. Makes it easier for travel.

I just use a fireproof document security safe.

Ps pretty sure you could just use a large fire blanket.

I have a liposask, not positive of the material used, but I plan to get a military ammo can to store my lipos in when they're in the house.

You can get em for around $10 at gun shows, and I trust them a lot more then the lipo sacks.

X2 on the ammo cans. thats what i use, i even made 6 compartments in it by tack welding some dividers in it, that way if one lipo goes off there is a less chance it will take out the others. I also drilled some tiny holes in the lid so if one does explode it can release the pressure. Hopefully it works, but hopefully I will never have to find out!

My guess would be a tight-weave fiberglass mat... That's what it looks like in the pictures I've seen.

Lipo sacks seem to be made of Fiberglass or ceramic fibers with layer of high temperature silicone to keep fibers in place..

A metal box with a inner layer of "3m Nextel 312" should be more than enough.

I use nextel 312 on my turbo manifolds and that thing is Tough!

Fiberglass cloth eh? All the cloth I have seen is meant to have resin added. At least it gives me a place to look.

I have a container already, but if a lipo does go up for whatever reason (I do still have a certain ill-reputed brand lipo), I'd like to 1) prevent the other packs from going up as well, and 2) not get so hot that the metal can's surface doesn't combust whatever it is sitting on. I know there'll be tons of smoke, but if I can contain any flames and the majority of the heat, the container can be moved outside in short order.

The storage version of the liposack is kinda what I'm looking for, but it makes for a rather large item to move, and is still a "soft" container. My idea is to use any toolbox with fire-proof material lined compartments that I can slide lipos on-end with enough room at the top for the wires. Simply shutting the toolbox "caps" the compartments (but still allows some venting).

Neil: Death by glory or any other means is not an option. I don't know what I would do if my wife or kids were killed, or rendered homeless, because of a hobby. This is a case where an ounce of prevention is worth ten tons of cure...

Good idea bondo! Did a quick search and found three fairly inexpensive blankets. Might have to swing by sometime and check them out in person to make sure it's what I'm looking for. 1000*F should be sufficient...

As an alternative contact sailmakers (in Chicago?) like Doyle, UK-Halsey, Norths etc. They should have old Kevlar sails sitting around that they could cut a strip off & would only cost shipping?

I know I've got some old ones around, happy to send a few metres if you want to use that?

I'm gonna put mine in an old .50 cal ammo crate. If its good enough for the army, its good enough for me.
