Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Thought this was interesting just thought I'd post it here. I was watching a show on new cars, they mentioned the 2011 Hyundai will be using Lithium Polymer batteries to "save weight and extend run time."

Well, they're correct! I assume they've been using NiMH cells like most other hybrid makers...

Of course they are lighter, just surprised they are putting them in their hybrid since LiPo's are so "volatile". Good to see though, wonder if they are enerland cells.

Maybe they'll be using over-rated cells to keep temps down. But since it's in a consumer vehicle the "protection" circuitry will probably weigh as much as the pack so the weight savings might not be so great.

Whoever provides a hybrid version of either the Hyundai Tucson or Honda CR-V first will get my money, bar none.

..maybe they're using Maxamps Lipos

If so then it would be called a fire sale right:rofl:? Just kidding:lol:. I could see them using the LiFe cells since they are much safer and give pretty close to the same performance from everything that I have read. I have not seen much at all negative on LiFe cells so I don't understand why the market is not leaning in that direction anyway:whistle:. All the power, lite weight, 1,000 recycles, and no fire, so whats the problem?
