Does anyone know what the heck this is?

I know this is EXTREMELY off topic, but I noticed this pop up in my yard a few days ago. I had 2 or 3 of these pop up in a different spot in my yard about this time last year. It is the size of a fist, and as you can see they litterally rip the ground open when they come up. I know it is some kind of fungus but I nor anyone around me have ever seen anything like it before, and it seems to only be happening in my yard. Do any of you know what this is, or maybe have seen something like it?

aliens...

Judging from their depth in the ground, I'd say alien poopie. Do you see any peanuts?

OK, on a serious note, might want to check here: http://americanmushrooms.com/lawnandgarden.htm

Although, by the site, it's probably more accurate if you live in the US...

On a less serious note!

Your picture link didn't work, but I know which one you are referring to. If the wrong people see that, this thread is going to go in a completely different direction!

Finnster 09.30.2010 08:35 PM

Needless to say I didn't really go to them. 500 dudes to 1 chick in the entire school makes for some lame-o parties. A&S FTW

It's a Flood spore... I recommend that you notify your local UNSC branch immediately before an outbreak occurs. I have the Master Chief on speed dial if you need him.

Might be a Puff Ball - cut it open and post a pic of the inside.

reno911 10.01.2010 10:05 AM

On a serious note it is a fungus and I recommend pulling them asap, if they mature to long you'll find yourself having more of them once the spores release. Goes for any fungi growing in your lawn or whatever. That and many can be unsafe for pets if they digest them.

Share pictures.

Just share your pics with one of those mushroom sites and ask them what it is. Easy way to get rid of it. Just pour some straight bleach on top of it. Pretty weird looking object for sure. Maybe thats where the new superbug is coming from???
