1/10 Onroad/rally car?
I were sitting and looking at my Erbe, and I just thought, I want something fast, something that hauls on 4s, I want a 1/10scale brushless onroad/rally car.
When I was young a had a Kyosho Pure ten alpha Gp : http://images.forum-auto.com/mesimag...2/DSCN4572.JPG I miss it. Maybe I should buy one again and convert it to brushless? I was thinking of this setup: Esc: click Motor: Click Battery:Click The problem is.... I donīt think the drivetrain will like this setup, or any brushless setup for that mather:whistle: Does anyone have a other suggestion of car? Or know If someone have converted one of these? I like this one because it has a simple design, Itīs very cheap and I miss it:oops: I have also been looking at some hpi models and the 4-tec but I want a more "rally style" car. Feel free to shime in:whip: |
See if you can scrounge up an used Tamiya tt01.
|
Yeah, or a new one from tower: click
But itīs a mess, I understand that there is differences, by looking at the price. But what is different betwen them? Some have new plastic parts such as " New design, seperated gearbox and shocktower" But how in the world am I going to know wich version that is best?:surprised: I have tried to fint a "tamiya homepage" to look at the models but itīs a nightmare. Finding out the difference between the hpi sprint to sport models, the sprint to flux and the e10 was easy as drinking a beer but on this one Iīm stuck. And I donīt know where to get spare parts.. Tower doesnīt have them all I think...:whip: |
Tamiya makes the DF03ra chassis which is specifically for rally purpose, that could work for what you're thinking about. Here's a link.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXWXX9&P=SM Of course there's also the Kyosho Inferno GT with the Subaru body, they can go insanely fast once converted to brushless, I know, I have one but that's 1/8 scale. Also there's a crap load of hop-ups for the DF03ra on RCmart.com. You can use most of the hop-ups made for the DF03 also as this is the exact chassis the DF03ra is using, the only difference is the shocks/towers are shorter. |
Plus one what IGT_7x said, the DF-03Ra. Here is the combo deal from rcmart -
http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/rc-tow...cPath=420_1167 Shame you got rid of the Pure Ten. We used to have them too and bring them to work on nightshifts. Hoon them around the car park for hours & get paid for it, lol. Ah the memories. IGT_7x - Have you got a thread or pics of your GT anywhere? I'd like to see it? Pete |
hooppjs – yes I do have pics, just search for Inferno GT in this forum & it should show up. I tell you what that car on 6s is a blast, you talk about a speed rush. Matter of fact I'm thinking of getting another one but this time the GT2 with the corvette body.

Manne,
Damn it, everytime I go to rcmart I buy something. I'm going to try my hand at front wheel drive, the mighty mini. What a sweet looking rig! http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/rc-tam...cPath=420_1167 Overpowered, brushless front wheel drive time. |
|
Thanks alot IGT_7x!
Balldiffs as standard sound good to me, Do you know if the outputs from the diffs are plastic or metal? Maybe it doesnīt mather since I saw that there were upgrades available at rcmart. Iīm a bit scared tho... I saw this: Bevel gear set plaaastic... Edit: Hooppjs Haha thatīs life when you are addicted to Rc, I know how it feels.... IGT_7x: That rig of yours... Is one truely good looking piece of art! exactly what I want! Maybe I should just find myself a cheap second hand 1/8 nitro rally something...? Gaah itīs hard, this project is meant to be cheap:lol: |
Yes they are plastic...typical Tamiya. I have the DF03 Dark Impact which I converted to brushless Sidewinder/5700 combo & on 2s it seems to have no problems. I did however do a lot of upgrades to it including a carbon fiber chassis. I put it up on Ebay as I don't use it at all. Here's some pics.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_946wt_1141 As far as the IGT, you might be able to find one on Ebay cheap since the IGT2 is out. Plus they're built like a tank so it can take a beating. Thanks for the compliment! |
Yep, just looking. That is beautiful as with ricemans.
The Kyosho 1/8's have come a long way since the GP20. I'd recommend these as well to Manne if 1/8 scale was ok. I have 5 GP20's I've collected over the decades. Now, I was in the hobby shop the other day face to face with that GT2 with yellow corvette body. I stood there for 5 minutes staring at it. It is a big car.:gasp: |
Yes it is and the detail is amazing. But you haven't seen big till you've owned a HPI Baja 5t. I have one as well & it's a beast!!:surprised:
Manne – you should know by now that this hobby is never cheap  |
PLastic just wonīt do it for me:oops: The dark Impact was nice!
How about the sport to sprint?: hpi belt driven The hpi E10 clickSeems to be a real beginners car, fragile, or?:whip: With some other shocks and tires... And body:party: |
The HPI Sprint 2 is a nice car, I have one too (yes I know I have too many ) It's really smooth to drive since it's belt driven, but like any other rc there's some mods that you will have to do to make it run better. My setup has the Sidewinder/5700 combo & it hauls. Right now I have it setup to do drifting, wanted to try my hand on it. Forget the E10, that's a beginner car.
|
Thanks alot for the input:). What is the main modifications then?:whip:
Are the driveline holding up well? I want to use so much juice that I can drift with regular "grippy" non drifting tires:lol: You think my current setup will be enough? |
