Sidewinder SCT combo - help plz

I have some questions(for everyone that can help)

As Patrick said, both motor and esc can handle 3s lipo.(even when they are together).

Both the motor and controller are 3s capable, in the right application... But not in a 4wd SCT truck.

I have a Hyper Mini STe(Ofna,same as CRT .5).

Here are the specs:
Some of them are compared to Slash.

4wd
Center diff
1/12 scale(but it's like 1/10...)

Model_______Slash 4x4____Hyper Mini STe

Length________57cm________37cm
Track_________30cm________30cm
Weight________2,16kg*______2,4kg(with battery and all electronics)
Wheelbase_____34cm________24cm
Overall Height___21cm_______16cm

*(without battery and electronics - I think - I got this from the 2wd Slash,4x4 could be heavier)

Can I use this combo on 3s in my truck? I need it with a gearing for ~50mph
(88km/h) This truck isn't something big and difficult to move. I can gear it for 50mph with a 2s battery too,but with 3s would be easier to gear it (on 2s this is the highest gearing that can fit in this truck...),it'll have more punch (and maybe more torque) on 3s (from what I suppose) and the most batteries I have are 3s...

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

install it a check themps ... how hard can it be ...

I just have 120$ and I can't select between a 550 motor and this combo.(550 motor could be a disaster....unsure if my esc and car can handle it).
If I use the 2s plan(55mph gearing),will the temps be lower than 3s?(55mph gearing)

With that buget you canīt buy better. That combo is the best bang for the buck and is much more powerfull than a 550.

Install it, run it and check the temps. If they are to high, gear it lower and thatīs it ...

I bet it will run like a champ...

AL3xGR 11.07.2010 04:21 AM

I will try a 3s first.(when I'll buy it...)

Both 2s and 3s setups will be for 50mph.
It would heat up if I would use a 3s battery?

If you are gearing for the same top spped with both 2s and 3s the 3s setup "should" run cooler. You will have more overall power and torque with the 3s setup, so you will want to drop the power by adjusting the punch control and maybe lowering the timing.

I ran an ste with a neu 1509 on 2s lipo and it did just fine so I can imagine this setup with 3s will work great.

But i think that the motor will overheat easier on 3s because of the higher voltage.

Heat is caused by a few factors.

If the motor is spun too fast, ie, the voltage input is too high and the motor exceeds the mfgs recommended rpm the motor will get hot.

Too much load will also cause heat. Ie, gearing is too high or the motor is not big enough for the vehicle.

Seems like this motor is the correct size, and if you run it with lower gearing on 3s (to get the same speed as you would have it geared higher on 2s) it should run cooler.

As long as the motor is sized correctly and does not exceed the mfg specs on voltage, and your gearing is not too high it will be fine. Your ste is light and you are only gearing for 50mph. Mine was geared for 45 and did fine on 2s. The motor is used was a 6500kv, and I would have run 3s lipo if the kv was lower, in the 4000kv range.

Keep in mind that volts x amps = watts. Since you plan to gear both the 2s and 3s setup for the same speed the watts will be the same. So look at the equation and see that higher voltage will require less amps to make the same watts. Less amp draw means cooler equpemnt and less strain on the battery.

Ok.I was just about to look for another combo (I have a 150A esc,I only need a motor, but with this price that SCT has.....).I will try it.My general problem is that I have only 3s lipos...If I should use 2s only I would do it(I would convert all batts to 2s).I just didn't knew what I should do.I will wait until I get the SCT and try it.

Thanks for helping.
