Shiming out slop
Hey Guys,
My hyper st is very sloppy... Trying to rectify this as its beginning to get unpredictable and i'm starting to break alot of arms... Getting kinda expensive so i need to try and sort out the problems... i'm gonna replace all the pivot blocks, hinge pins, arms and hubs in an attempt to remove most of the slop... but to remove the rest of it... what can i use to shim it? Thanks guys, awaiting answers  |
check your rod ends
|
not sure what you mean?
tie rods? as in, the upper arms? the slop seems to come from the lower arm... When i hold the wheel i can rock it forward and back... |
Are you running a pillow ball suspension? If you are, tighten the lower pillow ball a bit, but, not so tight that there is binding. this should take out a lot of play assuming it is loose.

its standard C hubs,
Problem defiantly stems from the hinge pins, or the pivot blocks... i'm gonna solve it by replacing these items, but i wast advise on shimming the arms to stop them moving forward and backwards on the hinge pin. as this should cut down on arm breakages :) |
if the movement is in the hinge pins, then there is slop in the arm holding the hinge pin? maybe replace the arms???
Not too sure, but just chucking some ideas your way |
i have replaced the arms... :P they broke ;)
slop is between the pivot block and the pin, and the arm moves back and forwards on the pivot block.... Any one know the diameter of the hyper hinge pins? looking for some shims with the same i.d. |
