delrin or simular material source
i'm looking for some delrin sheet prefer .312 - .375 x 4-6" strips. i tried professional plastics and after my $30 min. order and thier shipping options i was spending more than i wanted.

site looks sweet, thanks. i know i've been there before, but never ordered from them.

This is where I get mine, best price that I have personally found, and you can get custom sizes too.

am i thinking okay here, its been suggested by a coworker i just go look for a cheap cutting board and use it. i see polyethylene ones. is that the same, better or worse as delrin for strength? could be my cheap alternative...
|
Most cutting boards are High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE). I would say it's as strong as Delrin, more flexible though. It's also very slippery, so works well for lower links/skids on a crawler. Between the two it depends on the application.
|
Polyethylene and the like is not near as strong as delrin and would flex where delrin would not. Delrin can be machined and threaded where polyethylene cannot either. Definitely no where near the same ball park. Delrin actually has characteristics the resemble metals more than plastics. I have worked with both.

I'd agree with TexasSP, Delrin is much stiffer and has better characteristics for making RC parts, although cutting board may be just fine for your application, it really depends on your budget and what you're making really.

ok, this goes back to my original line of thinking thanks. i may pick up a cheap cutting board just to play with and if anything use it to mock up parts since its so cheap.

I don't think that Regal plastics in Houston has a minimum order, and they usually have drops that you can buy of most materials.
I have a lot of delrin scrap at the shop, pretty sure I have what you need. I also have UHMW PE (also cutting board material), but it does not machine like acetal as it is very gummy. I have several sizes all the way to 1". let me know what you need and I can get it. Jeff |
awsome, i'm basically looking for 4x4 and up sheets of 3/8 or thicker material. i'm sure if you have thinner 1/4 stuff i can find uses for that too. i figured delrin would be my best bet like mentioned before becuase it can hold a thread. i'm just using it for fabricating various rc parts since i don't have real machining equipment and some parts i need i think delrin would work just fine with. i was also looking for some hex stock too to use for tvp spacers on my cen gst.

Your gonna spend some bucks on sheets that big. We order 4'x4' x 1/2" sheets of Nylon type 6 and delrin, usually around 200 or more a piece.
|
Just for clarification, do you mean 4 feet or 4 inches?

I don't have much in the 3/8" or less thickness in Delrin. Most of that is either 3/4" or 1". I also have 7/16", 1",2 1/2" round bar. I have 1/4" and 3/8" in UHMW, and I do have some pieces that are about 4" X 4" (Also have 1" thick in this material) Email or Pm me if you want any of those. Jeff |
yeah, i ment inches lol..... i think i got it handled. atleast it appears so. turns out i found a cheap easy to get source from walmart. my buyer from work suggested i just go pick up a cutting board, and it worked out great. if this material doesn't work out i'll track down the delrin, but seems good for now. thanks everybody.
