Mamba Max & 1512 motor?

I recently purchased a CRT.5 and a 1512 1800kv motor. Would it be ok if I ran the 1512 off of a older Mamba Max and either 2s or 3s power?

The Mamba Max I have does not work and I was thinking of sending it in for repair instead of buying another ESC.

Thanks for the help,
Nick

Pretty sure if you send them in a Mamba Max for repair they will send you back a Mamba Max Pro

I have the same motor in a Slash 4x4 and chose the MMM and it works well running 3s - 5s

Cheers

Nope they still have MM so I see no reason for Castle to send you a Pro... You can UPGRADE to a pro though for around $75 IIRC.

MM are one of the most robust controllers... They power a CRT.5 without any issues although for 3S it is worth adding an external BEC.

Thank you for the quick responces guys. I see the Mamba Pro has a built in BEC, would that be enough for my setup? Do you think the Mamba Pro is a good upgrade to the older Mamba Max?

I have two Mamba Max's, one has a broken on/off switch and the other does not work at all, I think I remember seeing it get a little smokey at one point.

Thanks,
Nick

Most of us remove the swtiches anyway - one less thing to fail

Some people have had issues with the internal BEC on a MMPro with HT servos and have to add an external BEC to avoid the RX losing signal.

When removing the on/off switch does the ESC just turn on when you plug the battery in?

Also, which external BEC do you recommend?

Thanks,
Nick

On a regular MM, I would run an external BEC on anything over 2s lipo. This is because it has a linear BEC and can't deliver much current without overheating with a high differential voltage.

The only reason the MMPro needs an external BEC is because it seems a bit weak. It has a switching BEC just like the external ones, but as Arct1k stated, the MMPro bec tends to have trouble with more powerful/faster servos.

Yes, the ESC will be ON as soon as you plug the battery in.

There are quite a few external BEC choices, but my favorites are:
- DimensionEngineering ParkBEC: http://www.dimensionengineering.com/SportBEC.htm
- Castle's CCBEC (or pro version, but that's overkill): http://www.castlecreations.com/products/ccbec.html

Thanks again guys, I think I'm going to get at least one BEC from Castle.

Its not just the MMP that struggles with bec issues

My MMM needs one (I use the ccbec) to support an Ace DS1015 Servo
