Post your Castle 1717 setup here!
Hey Guys,
I've been researching different ways/setups to put the power of the 1717 to good use. A truly awesome motor, this thing must lay down some rediculous power. I've been considering the Cen Genesis as a good playhouse for the 1717. Please post your Castle 1717 setup here. Vehicle information, gearing, esc, batts, plus anything that would be helpful to those of us considering new setups. Pictures are a plus. Thanks. |
I have a lst with the 1717, MMM, and a turnigy 40c 6s 5000mah lipo. Geared for low 40s, and using the stock lst2 tires which are 6.5" tall or slightly more and are quite heavy. Too much power, could be geared up quite a bit, although I wonder if the esc will keep up. On 8s with the MMMxl (omgwtfbbq) with lower gearing this would be plenty to move the big cen tires. I doubt the genesis would be much more than 3lbs heavier than my lst. Still a big truck. A 1527 would be my choice, but those are expensive...
I will be going back to the 1521 1y in my lst, and using the 1717 in the 6x6 lst. I have a feeling the transfer diff case will not take the beating, so I will have to machine up a suitable replacement. |

Here 's a pic of my xxl w/1717 MMM.I currently run this big rig on 5s, but 6s is in the works. My current 5s gearing is 20/63.Note i still havnt ran it with these big azz cen tires yet.The Moabs that i was running before were not much smaller so i should still be in the ballpark . |
Here my Savage with 1717, mounted on a custom made motor mount

Here is my Caster F8T conversion with a 1717 motor. It was a tight fit and I had to use an EliteRC motor mount and also shave down the steering post to provide enough space. Not pictured is a top plate I made to link the front bulkhead to the center diff to prevent chassis flex that would cause the steering post to hit the motor.
I've since sold the 1717 and I ordered 1518 to replace it. It was just too much motor in weight mostly. I would have kept it, but couldn't see a use for it in the near future. Pics can be seen in this post. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28552 Here is a video of it on the track running on 4S. It was literally my first run with the truck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4CV2k60svE ben |
Ben, that was some real nice driving. I'm impressed at the balance considering the weight of that 1717 :surprised:

How does it run and handle? I'm thinking about a setup like yours, only using a E Revo tranny, plus maybe some saddle bag type battery compartments. The battery compartments would mount to the sides of the chassis. I believe this would allow for some really large packs. |

I need more power on startup. People using MGM with same setup doesn't have cogging problem (so they say). Today i'll try to upload one of the first firmware. |
