Hpi Pro 4 Bl

I just won a slightly upgraded pro 4 and i wanna run a bl sys. that will give both run time yet be pretty fast on 6 cells....I was thinking for the novak 4.5 but i know i could get a faster system then that so i was just wondering what's your opions on that....this car will be used for drift, track, and fun....so i don't want just pure speed!

crazyjr 04.20.2006 07:57 PM

A 380 6 turn would be close and maybe faster than the 4.5 and with the right esc, cheaper than the 4.5. I'm not sure what esc to run so i'll let somebody else tell you that.

Mike.L 04.20.2006 08:28 PM

how did you win it?

Sylvester 04.20.2006 08:40 PM

I think he means off ebay ;)

Thunderbruiser 04.20.2006 09:04 PM

yeah i won it from an ebay auction for $200 shipped and it's upgraded to match the team driver edition and includes a bmw body.......so a 380 6x will out run i dunno maybe i'll just get the 4.5 with good gearing and team orion li-po i should get some good speeds

squeeforever 04.20.2006 10:11 PM

i think i would go for the 380 with a nice warrior 7020 or maybe a mtronics pro.

crazyjr 04.20.2006 11:30 PM

The 6s fegaio 380 is about 6500kv and not sure about novak, but estimates are close to 7500kv. I would still go with the 6s 380 because it has more torque and you could gear up to match the 4.5 and have torque to spare. If you ever went lipo I've heard of people using 3s on it

captain harlock 04.21.2006 06:57 AM

The Novak will only cause you trouble, to be honest with you. A 6s with 9920 controller and a Team Orion lipo pack will surely make your touring sedan FLYYYYY. If you dont mind about paying some real money, I would recommend the 1920/4 motor with 9920 and Team Orion lipo pack. That motor will easily outrun the novak and the 6s, though I think it wont accelerate as fast the other two will.

lipomax 04.21.2006 08:12 AM

The 4.5 is faster than the 6s on 6 cells. The 5.5 was barely slower than the 380c 6s.

captain harlock 04.21.2006 09:49 AM

Yeah, but the Novaks in many times sufferred from some real damages like the bearings popping out of their place and the magnets getting destroyed and that and that and that....not to mention that it sufferred from all of these problems with traditional sub-c cells and the GTBs do fry alot, too and what do you think will happen to the motor and the controller when lipos are used?!! I dont want to even say it. There are a wide selection of sensored and sensorless motors to go for beside the Novaks. The Reedy Neo One and the LRP are a very good setup with German quality and top performance. I still recommend the 1920/4 motor with the 9920 esc for high speeds and jaw dropping performance.

I agree with the Captain about the 1920,mine runs spookily silent, very smooth and cool,it'd be the most efficient i'd guess, longest runtimes.I'd suggest the 5 turn (46k rpm on 7.4v) or the 6 turn for longer runtimes and cooler temps.

lipomax 04.21.2006 11:26 PM

I *HAD* the 1920 5 turn and guess what? It thermals the controllers all the time. Yes, it is an insanely powerful motor, but with JUST 6 cells, they are all the same. The 1920 5 turn is actually slower so I have to use a larger pinion gear to achieve the same speeds. Now, if you put 12 cells on the 1920 5 turn, it is WAY MORE POWERFUL than the Novaks, but I don't recommend 12 cells on the 1920 5 turn (yes, I know, I'm way past the RPM limits).

I also had the Hacker C40 6s, the Feigao 380C 6s. Honestly, my favorite is the 1520 10 turn with 3s lipo for the touring cars - but the motor and adapter plate will set you back the same amount as the GTB 4.5. I also like the Basic 5300 on 3s lipo in my TC - very/too powerful. :)

BUT, with the limitations of 6 cell and or 2s lipo, the GTB 4.5 is the fastest except for the very hot wind 1515 and 1520 series.

BTW, I've tested the GTB 5.5 and it'll pull 100+ amps all the time during peak output. It also seems to be about 6500 KV which should put the 4.5 around 8000 KV!!!!!

AND, I'VE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY GTB or SS5800.

captain harlock 04.22.2006 07:28 AM

It always depends on the user, lipomax, and I still think it would be possible to take down the 4.5 with the 1920/4 and not the 1920/5- who would want to use 12 cells, anyway- a good controller, high capacity lipo packs( like 6000-8000mah) and a gear ratio that would make your car go over 45mph easily at 8.4V. However, I cant argue alot since you'd used the thing. You said that you'd used the 12.97 esc with the 1920/5 and it thermalled. I think that problem would have been evaded with the Warrior 20120 controller or the MGM 12012.

It all depends on how much would you pay to go fast. I might go for a reedy neo one, but not a Novak.

Gustav 04.22.2006 02:36 PM

I can't really comment on the low turn 1920s on low cell counts, mine is a 10 turn on higher voltage so i just figured that the 5 turn would work well with 6 cells but apparently not.I use mine with a 18.97 on 3s most of the time and i can 't really get any heat out of the motor or controller.

Thunderbruiser,it depends what you're looking for,i don't think a system that's faster than the 4.5 on 6 cells but also does runtime and not just pure speed really exists, two different things really on only 6 cells. If runtime is what you want then maybe a slower turning motor like a basic5300 or a 1920/6.Some more voltage would achieve both easily though.

Thunderbruiser 04.23.2006 11:40 PM

yeah i don't want it to be just a speed car so most it'll see is either 6 cells or 2s lipo...which of course would be run in the future.....I think that i'll just get the 4.5 because i want this car to be normal in a sense and i think that 12 cells in a touring car is overkill seeing as i plan on running around a course...thanks a lot for your imput fellas!
