Any thoughts about MGM TMM-40063-3 X-Series
Hi Guys,
I've been out of RCs for over a year. Here's my story. The company which I previously was working for was the largest mushroom produce company in Canada, but they had to declare bankruptcy. So I lost my job. Was I worried? No. Hurt? yes. The following day another mushroom company called me up for a job offer. I was a bit indecisive, but I said, "what the heck". I am glad I did, because now the current company I work for is the biggest mushroom producer in Canada. So for the last year, I've been working hard. I had no time for RCs. But now, I am back. Sorry for the sobbing story.. I'm looking to upgrade all of my RC vehicles to use this Series ESC. I'd like to have the same brand ESC for my RC cars, just for ease of programming and etc. Thinking of getting: TMM 40063-3 for my 1/5 Rampage to run on 15S 3x TMM 25063-3 for all 3 of my GSTs. Has anyone use any of these ESCs yet?.. Thanks... |
MGM makes great ESC's, however they are expensive and getting them serviced outside of Europe is difficult and time consuming.
I would go with Castle seeing as how you are in Canada. |
If he want's 63 volts, he can not go with Castle.

Castle makes a 5th scale system though, which is what I was referring to.
|
Castle makes 8s, if he is looking into 40063 and 25063 he is not going to run 8s.

That's correct, I'm looking for something that could handle higher voltage (14-15S)... and lots of Amps..
Looks like the MGM seems to be my only option ... But Thanks for letting me know about Castle's 1/5th scale ESC ... I have just ordered 3 of those for my 1/8th scale RCs ... There's goes having the same ESCs rule... :) but the 40063-3 is looking good to me... The Spin can only handle 200 Amps... |

For what it is worth..
I have used ESC from a variety of chinese comapnies for my planes and helicopters. For cars; Castle, BK, Losi, Jeti, Schulze and MGM. Regarding MGM: Unfortunately not the new series of MGM, but the other series has been fantastic. Super-smooth..., with good brakes. A lot of punch and really good feeling on the throttle. I have really miss-used the MGM and turned off all the protective features - never any probs at all.. Once it became very wet and stopped, but after drying up it worked perfectly again. The temp-protection cannot be disabled, so I have been running it up to 100C many times - it just stops, beeps and after a reset from the radio and a few minutes of rest it starts again I know it is not the same series, but the brand has worked very well for me. I'm also thinking of the 40063 for a coming project:angel: |
I've used similar brands as well... I have used 3 different MGM brands, but seeking different alternatives for HV other than Schulze. Although the 40.160WKs were awesome controllers...

Wow, 15S, plugging in those connectors is likely to create a small mushroom cloud, LOL!
EDIT: With that high of voltage, do you also need the super high current rating too? Isn't the main reasoning behind using an HV system to help keep current draw low? Even 100A at 56V would be over 7 horsepower! I would think 100-200A is more than enough. |

ESC is on it's way, now how am I going to run 15S? 3x 5S cells?... I may give HK's Nano-Tech a test run with this! I can't wait until it gets here.. |
Sounds great.
Sounds like a great project to share on here. We just arrived here in Prague and will be here for the next two to three years, but eventually I was thinking about helping people out with MGM once we get settled here and I have a chance to spend some time at the MGM factory/shop so I can see whats, what. Of all the ESC's on the market MGM has had my attention for the best package overall. They seem to be a very solid controller, and the smoothness of their operation is a plus. The only issues I have seen that make them difficult has been the customer service being in the middle of Europe. Especially for you guys in the USA. So lets see if we can provide a little effort to make things more user friendly for warranty repairs and such.
The next couple of weeks I will be pretty busy getting the kids setup with school, and getting our new home setup once our personal goods show up. Then it will be time for me to do a little research and finding my way around the city so I can travel with ease. Once I find MGM I will let your guys know how things look. Good luck with your 15 S project. |
I've spoke to Martin Dvorsky @ MGM.. They are expecting you Jerry.. LOL

Man that would be sweet. I've been eyeballing the new MGM ESC 280A with the full waterproof option.
