Novak Ballistic 8 motor - press release

Here's a .pdf I found on another forum. Looks like the Ballistic 8 will be 4-pole and sensored. They are coming out with 2 sizes, 8 and 8L, which I assume pretty much correspond to buggy and truggy judging by the dimensions listed. The release also mentions a Kinetic 4S ESC, which IMO is a bit of a disappointment that they aren't going for 6S max.

I had posted this earlier in the day.

Ah, well doesn't hurt to have a thread to discuss it in the Novak section too I guess. People (like myself ) might miss it in the LRP pics thread.

snellemin 02.01.2011 10:37 AM

True. So are you thinking about trying this motor out as well?

simplechamp 02.01.2011 03:28 PM

We'll see I guess. It's pretty much down to the Viper 1/8 or now the Ballistic 8. Might end up coming down to price-point. I do like the sensor port location on the Ballistic 8, like on the other Ballistics. With my motor in the front left of the car there isn't a whole lot of room between the end of the motor and steering post for a sensor wire to be sticking out. On the other hand the Viper color scheme goes perfectly with my CF and red accent car. Shouldn't pick a motor just on looks, but it is a factor.

Pricepoint and warranty is key for me. Both motors will be roar legal, so not much difference between them.

simplechamp 02.01.2011 03:53 PM

Good point, warranty and support is key. I know Novak's standard warranty, but have you heard anything about what is being offered for the Viper gear?

wallot 02.01.2011 04:15 PM

43.5mm diameter? who would use such motor. would not fit with tekno and with standard mounts you will have limited gearing as the motor would hit the chassis so you endup having to raise the whole center diff

snellemin 02.01.2011 04:52 PM

Tekno has a 44mm motor mount, which I use with my Hacker and Tekno motors.

Well I think I have it narrowed down to the 72mm 2300kv Viper, or the 71mm Ballistic 8 (as long as they have it in a 2000-2400kv wind). Just waiting to see what kind of reviews they get once they are both available to the public.

snellemin 02.01.2011 05:55 PM

Man, I was banking on you to do the reviews.

simplechamp 02.03.2011 11:19 PM

LOL, well hopefully I'll be able to have some personal experience with one of them sooner than later!
