Testing an ESC
I recently had a MMM short out and of course i sent it to CC and they replaced it. Now that i have the replacement ready to go in my truggy, i would like to test it for shorts before i plug it in and secure it like i did before. So my question is can i verify that it wont short without plugging it into the motor or radio. I may have just asked a stupid question and fully expect someone to point that out.

you can hook it to the battery only and turn it on to verify that the led's are blinking without the motor or receiver hooked up.
it will spark when you plug it in because the capacitors are getting charged for the first time, nothin' to worry about. you won't hear beeps until you plug the motor in, it's actually the coils in the motor that beep!! |
You should see all 3 LED's (red, yellow, green) flashing, which indicates the controller is not receiving a valid signal from an RX.

Thanks that is what i needed to know. Hopefully no welder-like arcs this time.
