Blown Diff?
Hey guys...
Was running in the dirt today when I noticed something odd. Seems like I have 2WD now. Holding up the E-Maxx in the air, when I spin either of the front wheels, both spin..but the rear wheels nor the tranny (spur) spins. When I try the rear wheels, both spin and the front wheels and spur spins... Already checked the hexes, CVD pins...so I'm assuming it's the FRONT DIFF? Is this right? |
could be the front drive shaft. if its not then ya its somthing in the diff.
|
yeah..the front cvd driveshafts look fine. Guess it's time to open up the diff!!
|
Just opened up the front diff and looked inside. Don't know what I'm looking for..LOL :D
All the spyder gears look fine... |
look at the ring and pinion how do they look?
|
Which one is the ring and pinion? :032:
Sorry..I've never really opened up or worked with the diffs before... |
Nevermind..figured out the ring and pinion are the gears right inside the diff case. Those look fine.
Checked the gears in the diff cup, too..but they look fine also... Could it be the rear diff? |
Found the problem...
It was the front diff..apparently the spyder gears made a nasty indent in the diff cups... Time to pick up some aluminum cups! |
Glad you found the problem!
|
Sounds like time for the aluminum cups. They make the diffs alot stronger.
|
Yep..just picked some up.
LHS didn't have any grease for the diffs though...is there anything I can pick up at like a Lowes, Home Depot, or RadioShack? |
you lhs didnt have associated black grease, or green slime?
|
they were out of the associated black grease...
Does the associated green slime (#1105) work? If so..will one small tube be enough to do one diff? I've read some people also use white lithium grease. Is this for the ring and pinion, or is this okay for the cup/spiders, too? |
