Diff sizes
Just wondering if losi and ae diffs are close enough in size to be interchangeable. Basically I want to run the losi l8ight model front oneway in my rc8. I can already see I would need to swap outdrive bearings to the non flanged ae type and the ring gear as well but don't want to order it only to find out it won't work. Has anyone tried running a losi diff in an ae car? I think I remember someone using the smartdiffs in other vehicles but not sure. I figured if anyone knew they would be here.

I'm also interested to see if that can work. I have an lst diff I can use to see if it fits but the losi pinion shaft is thicker than the AE. Bearings would be easy enough but i'm not sure about the cvd cup.

I pulled the diff's out on the rc8t and lst2 today. I put the diff, pinion and cvd cup from the losi into the AE. The pinion needs some shimming and minor dremeling but it should work fine. The AE cv shaft fits nicely in the losi cvd cup. The cup is a couple of mm shorter but there's enough play at the other end to soak it up.
I'm not 100% but I beleive the lst2 uses the same size diffs as the truggy/buggy so I would think the smartdiff should fit as well. |
Wow, been a while. Thanks Panda! Forgot all about this. After upgerading to the new worlds parts and snr cf chassis and towers I've got all the steering I could ever need. Not happy with the handling of the buggy with the battery in the front of the car like most kits are payed out. Gonna put it in the rear again like I had it before. Just feels more stable and balanced on the track for me. Haven't touched my rigs in four months so maybe when I get back down south I will get to it. Thanks for the input let me know how it all turns out for you.
